I bought one of those high powered Class III green lasers at some bazaar for 50 bucks.

Today I dropped it from some height and it won't work anymore. Totally dead. I can feel something rattling in the laser housing but I've no idea how to open it. It seems like a closed tube. :yabbem:

Any suggestions guys? Thanks.

You most Likely Knocked of the Crystal and Expanding lens.

what laser is it. Do you have Picture.?

Have you opened the laser at all.?

Please dont Look into the laser pointer wail pressing the On button. If the laser is still working and what i said above is true there will be lots of IR coming out and can damage your Eyes.

So best to not put batteries in it anymore until we find out exactly whats wrong with it.

Is this your first laser.?

In case of blocked login, click here.

I used pliers and a saw, which is why the outside of the casing is scratched. I ripped out the casing.

Then, I pulled off part A and it snapped right out.

Parts B and C were loose and were the ones rattling inside.

I think part C has a green crystal in it.

Parts B and C were in the opening of D, which I have illuminated with a flashlight.

There were no wires, parts B and C were just rattling about inside.

Parts A and B are some sorta lenses.

Well for sure Now Its not Fixable.

It is but its not worth it after Ripping it apart.

Your better off just buying a New one.

You can buy those pens for pretty cheap ~$25 for 50 -100mW with IR.

There all over the Place online.

What did the sticker say on the pen.? How many mW was Written on the sticker.?

Check the web you should be able to find a Replacement.

Look For NewWish Green laser pen.

Fixing that is not worth the trouble. Especially after you did that to it.

If you want to spend a Little more check out Lazerer.com.. Its not My site we just have similar names. There cheap and On Point....

Hmm.

After the way you took it apart i dont think its fixable.

You would have to re Align the Crystal with the IR Diode which without laser safety goggles is a No Go.

Then you would have to Re Align the Expanding lens on top of the Crystal which is "B"

The Screw in the Front Optic that you Snapped right off. Which is "A"

You can use Thermal Adhesive to attach everything back together. NOT SUPER GLUE.

But IMO its beyond fixable or even worth the frustration...

If its still working you will get a Un collimated beam of IR. Which is Invisible nd you can get seriously hurt without Proper laser safety equipment.

Just forget about this Laser and buy another one. Its a Goner.:(

Did the thing come loose so easily because it was a cheap laser or are such things THAT fragile?

Also, how will the IR beam from the diode affect me? Can it burn my skin if I put my hand in front of it?

I don't think it can be more damaging than the original laser beam.

Please stop PMing me the Same Thing you write in the post. You done this 3 times already. I can read it here Just fine.

Yes it is more dangerous then the Original Laser Because depending on what power the laser is truly it can be anywhere from a 300mW-500mW of IR to get <200mW of Green.

Even then when it was still working its extremely dangerous because there is Most likely IR leaking through since there is no IR filter.

Read Up on 532nm laser and IR 808nm laser.

sorry man. heh.

so it is NORMAL for lasers to be this fragile, the parts coming off easily?

I only dropped the laser from a height of about 1m.

Yes all laser are Fragile and use sensitive components. 1 meter is More then enough to kill Just about any laser out there.

Check around the Forum for review on different Company.

No Laser Will withstand Abuse or Drops for long. No matter how much you spend.

Check out JetLasers.com if you want a Good Green Laser for a Fair Price. Optotronics too. Rayfoss and O-like will have OK Laser Lazerer.com aswell.

But None will take damage for long.

Check Out the B/S/T section on the forum too there is always a good deal on one.

Guess I should be more careful from now on. Heh.

Thanks, I learned quite a lot today.

So the IR diode can't burn my skin? That's a relief. :)

1. Depends
2. Depends - Sometimes it works, sometimes you just kill the laser
3. Depends - all diodes burn out after a while. If you were intending on asking whether they burn out faster, then yes, if they don't die the second you try it.
