How much mAh in a 18650 should be used for this?

Hello all, I am going to get a PGL-III-C-589 25mw. And I need to know the correct amout of mAh in the 18650 battery that it needs. Also on the PDF that they provide, it shows the type of battery (18650) but doesn't show the correct amount of mAh. I already have a 18650 battery, it's an IMR with 1500mAh from Lighthound. If anyone knows or if there is a certain amount needed please reply. Thank you!


By the way I did email them but waiting for the response but I would like to know now so I can order a battery asap.

EDIT: I am ordering a 50mw version of this instead!!!!!!!!!

More mah makes the battery last longer. Can't see why 1500mah wouldn't work.

The mah is only a spec related to the runtime....so, a higher mah cell will simply be able to run longer, all else being equal.

IE: Your cell's specs should be fine. A higher mah version would allow a longer time before needing to recharge...so, if you find you use the laser so often that recharging is a problem to keep up with, there are 3400 ICR 18650 for example.

There is no minimum mAh(Capacity) requirement. There would be minimum discharge rate the battery can provide based on the current demands of the unit but most 18650's unless really bad cells should be able to handle the current draw of that unit. Not sure the efficiency rate for 589nm pumping but I would doubt it is over 1A to make 25mW so just about any 18650 can handle that just don't buy really crappy cells. The mAh(Capacity) will determine how long you can run it before it needs to be recharged. If the current draw of the unit is 1A and you have a 1500mAh battery then it would run for 1.5 hours before needing to be recharged. Longer if the current draw is less.

Anyway if your 18650 cell is from Lighthound then I would say you have a cell that can run the unit just fine. Use it if you feel you are having to recharge the batteries too often then you can get one with a higher capacity but really 1.5 hours is a long time for a pointer you may have on for 20-30 seconds at a time.:beer:
 
Are you ordering from CNI directly, or somewhere else?

CNI has apparently stopped shipping lasers >5 mW from 2015... If you are getting it from eg Dragon lasers, do a bit of searching first before buying; there have been a few threads about them sending under spec units.:beer:

I am ordering this laser directly from CNI, they are shipping the PGL-III-C-589 in three parts. No I am not going to buy from Dragon Lasers because I already know their 50mw spartans are no good. I do not believe CNI aren't going to ship lasers over 5 mw.
