If you're looking at strictly power, then your best bet is infrared. Why do you need a lot of optical power?

I'm a noob.

When you say strictly power is ir does that mean burning power?

When you say optical power does that mean that there is greater radiation
below ir, for example 532nm or less?

Well, IR diodes have had a lot of time to be worked on in the photonics industry (808nm has gotten a lot of attention). They're high-power and rather inexpensive. But... it's nearly invisible. Optical power just refers to the light output in watts. :)

Optical power is also the same as "burning power," I guess. :eek:

A watt of Laser power is a Watt of Laser power no matter
what wavelength you use....

Just to add to what LasersBee said... The measure of power is the same
but each wavelength brings it own unique qualities to the table.

Red for instance at 200mW will have difficulty cutting or burning white
paper, where as 150mW of 405nm 'bluray' has a much easier time.

Some wavelengths will only work well with darker colours, where the
lower wavelength such as 405nm and 445nm seem to hold no bias..
While , most lasers favor the darker targets, these 2 have the best
range of ability..

Even though the most power goes to IR diodes, 1- you cant see them and
2- good luck trying to get a beam from them.. Additional optics are needed
to clean the output to anything usable..

For the most power in the visible range, 445nm royal blue is the best bet.
532nm green is also a good pick but comes with a heavy price for higher
powered units..

This is due to increasing photon energy as wavelength decreases. :)
