maybe try turning the pot a little bit? not to far, just see if the diode gets brighter?

try it?i'm not exaclty shure how you have it configured, but make shure to try it on a led first!

If you have everything wired correctly, it should work.

an LED doesn't require quite as much as a LD, so if the led is on, your LD should be on, but not very brightly. what colour LED are you using?red?,white?, blue?, yellow?
if i recall corectly, red is about 1.5V yellow is about 2V and blue/white is about 3V

That would be 9 ohms. I put two 5 ohm resistors in PARALLEL for 2.5 ohms and mine lases great at 160 mA. So take the resistors and put them in PARALLEL.

??? :-? Are you using a 317 to regulate? or is that just a current limiting resistor?

I am using Daedal's circuit and I measured the resistance of the pot at 160 mA. It was roughly 3.0 ohms. So I just replaced the pot with two 5 ohm resistors in parallel.

Or is that a 3 Ohm in series with a 4.7 Ohm for 7.7 Ohms and 165mA?

Unless you wired you LM317 wrong then the only way to limit to 165mA is to use a 7.7 ohm resistor as a_pyro_is said. 2.5 ohms will limit at .500mA.

It's a simple formula with the LM317:-
1.25 / resistance = mA

i used a 5ohm resistor and get between 200-250mA the prob was i used daedals ciruit the wrong way with out checking the pins for the lm317
