Hello,

looking for a safe first time laser + safety glasses.

Need it for a small scale scanning project.

A focus-able one may be useful for this type of use.

I am not sure about power and wavelength. Apparently 5mW green laser is more powerful than a 5mW red laser etc hence the confusion.

for now I can only buy from reliable retailer, not ebay or the likes.

:thanks:

A milliWatt is a milliWatt is a milliWatt of power.
Whether it is 405nm 532nm or 650nm or 808nm of the
same power they all ARE the same power.

The difference is in the way the human eye detects
those different wavelenghts.

Green (532nm) is more sensitive to the human eye
than Red (650nm) and hence looks brighter.

We would need a bit more info on your scanning
project to be able to point you in the right direction
for a Laser.

Have a look in the B/S/T sections of the Forum to
see what is for sale and who is selling.

A milliWatt is a milliWatt is a..........

Thanks but most of those are high power lasers.

I never owned a laser and would like to start out low to familiarize myself with them.

Anyway the project is to create an image from reflecting the laser beam on rotating mirrors like old Tvs but basic version of it for now.

Because of the nature of this project I am scared of stray beams hitting my eye.

Also I don't need something very powerful because I don't plan on projecting very far (maybe 2-3 meters max) at least for now.

Since the eye is more sensitive to green light does that make it the less safer choice?
