I found this story on Dvice. Here's the link:
Guy uses a $300 laser to pop popcorn, one kernel at a time | DVICE
Has anyone else tried this? Also, the safety glasses he is using look like the ones from O-like (the T-Rex ones). IMHO that doesn't seem very safe. I want to try this with my 360mW blu-ray (I seriously doubt it will work) or when I make my DIY >1W 445.
EDIT: I think this is the right section for it. If not, sorry, I thought it would go here because there is a youtube video of it.

Netscott (I think) popped a kernel hot-glued to a spinning motor with a 445nm diode.

I popped a kernel using tin foil and a CO2 laser. It still takes a minute or so.

Do you know how powerful is 445 is? Also, how powerful is your CO2 laser?

Cyparagon> Yea that is his page and youtube video on the bottom. If go to his channel you will see that exact video you are speaking of.:)

He must of re did it with 2 Arctics.

LOL, I may have to try this. But one of my 445nm builds only does about 300mW. Maybe if I use my 900mW 445, 300mW 445, 250mW 650, and 260mW 405 all together it'll work.

Make sure to have smoke in the room and post a video of that if you do because I'm pretty sure most of us would love to see that. :D

I hVe a 1.9W 445, a 1.2 W 445 that'll be built when my diode gets here Monday and a 225mW 405. I'll attempt to do it to as soon as my diode gets here, put all 3 on a kernel at different angles and see if I can accomplish it. I think it'll work with the 1.9W 445 alone.
