Well, spree killers are the only reasons for banning guns, right?

That's basically the "logic" behind the current drive to enact new gun control measures, yes.

At least that's the message I seem to be getting from pro gun control people.

Funny thing is, I don't even own a gun right now.

A gun has never killed anyone. People kill people whether it be a gun, knife, rock, fist, ect.
Guns are not evil people are.

"To disarm the people is the best and most effectual way to enslave them."

The difference between a hi-cap magazine and a "normal" magazine is less than 2 seconds.

Just to play the devils advocate again...

Guns are a tool for killing. The only other purpose would be hobby (target practice, collecting) and hunting. (Correct me if there are more purposes)

Why then should guns still be legal in the USA if their main purpose to end life?

The main point of this is would banning firearms stop deaths or would criminals find another way to kill? I doubt anyone could definitively argue that either way though, unless there are some facts that can show a relationship between homicide per 100,000 people and gun control.

However, having a knife or a bow would certainly be a whole lot less effective than an assault rifle in a murder spree.

There seems to be a misconception.

Criminals don't follow rules, laws, and regulations. Banning guns does not make a criminal think, "oh geeze, that's too bad they are illegal, I guess I won't commit a crime.".

Old quote When guns are outlawed only outlaws will have guns. I use mine guns for target practice and HOME DEFENSE.

How about a crossbow that fires chainsaws?

Banning guns is stupid, removing them from all unlicensed bearers is what really needs to happen, but it won't, it's near impossible to enforce.

IE's picture in the OP is misleading, if you can't even buy guns in a country, then illegal trafficking is the only way to get them. The only way to do that, in Aus, is to ship them over, which get caught in customs very quickly.

Yeah! Lots of drugs are illegal too, so you can't even buy them.

Oh wait...

True, but it makes it a lot harder for a person to obtain a firearm, and pricey too. They wouldn't be able to obtain multi-firearms for a spree.

Drugs have been illegal for decades. Are you telling me you would have great difficulty in getting your hands on any kind of drug within 24 hours?

Define pricey? Most guns are very well under $1000 USD. Heck there are plenty that are cheaper than some of our lasers.

Make them illegal, and certainly the price will be driven up, but that will not negate availability to anyone who makes an effort.

Well, to be honest drugs would take me less than 6 hours to get if I really wanted too, I wouldn't know where to start on getting a gun though.

That it's guys, I'm all out of points for the pro side of gun control, I've got some more for the con side that you guys haven't touch on yet ;)

That's a big reason I started this thread. I have yet to hear a thoroughly good and convincing argument pro gun control.

Going to sleep on it, and see if I can come up with some more pro gun control positions.

Btw, 24 hours was just an extreme estimate, and the same guys that sell you the drugs will likely point you in the right direction on guns... would probably take me about an hour to get drugs. Half of that time would be borrowing a friends car, so that my car doesn't scare the dealers off :undecided:

Thought of another one, accidents can happen if a gun is not stored under lock & key properly. I'm all for natural selection though.
