Getting a new green

A few months ago I got a '50mW' laser from trademe (basically NZ ebay).

The first night I used it was amazing, but a couple of weeks later it was reduced to outputting <5mW and being roughly as bright as a $2 keychain sometimes being slightly brighter. I tested it with fresh alkaline and fresh Lithiums.

I plan on getting a new laser just to point around with and no intention of burning. I just want one that looks really bright at night and can do what my 50 did when I first got it like for pointing at stars and hills in the distance,

I don't want to spend more than $30 USD. Is the true 50mW from DX any good? I've heard a lot of mixed stuff about DX ranging from them being the greatest people around to them being scum who send stuff that dead on arrival. Is the 50mW green good for being a bright laser to point around with.

For something less than $30 you're best bet is to have a look Here
But being new to the forum I'm sure I'll be corrected.

look in company thead under wlaser new 50mw torch ....you may have to scroll down a bit....23.00 shipped within the u.s. 2/3 day shipping ,plus warranty....mine tested 65mw

I looked at wlaser.com and didn't find a 50mW torch

Does the rayfoss 50mW pen for $25 seem any good?

www.rayfoss.com

I really want to make sure I don't get too disappointed. Idk even if it's 30-40mW just so long it looks really bright at night

Don't give out information when you don't know what you're talking about.

Rayfoss is a nice beginner company, their lasers can come underspec, to spec or over. They're cheap but get the job done (sometimes). It's really a gamble dealing with them, but the odds are in your favor (more good reviews then bad, in my opinion). They're typically a better company to deal with than DX or any other company with "buy" or "deal" in their name.

I can't find the link to their website. Just a PDF

Anyway how I'm not to sure if I want a laser giving of 60+ mW of light. I don't have any laser goggles, and I just want to point around with a bright night beam.

Is rayfloss good and they seem to have two 50mW pens, one is $25 and looks NewWish the other is $26 and looks slightly different. What's the difference other than one is AAA and other is AA

Personally< I'd go with the 50mW green silver pen pointer for $24.99 from http://www.ledshoppe.com/Product/ledp/LP1076.htm
I've gotten four lasers from them (two of the 50mW pointers....) and they have not worn out after 6 months of pretty good use. They ship to the US (takes a good two weeks) and they take US credit cards, so you're probably protected by your credit card company (Ames is AWESOME...) in case the shipment doesn't go through or if they're faulty upon arrival

I'll get the ledshoppe

Cool...I don't think you'll be disappointed. If you go directly to the general site at ::: www.ledshoppe.com ::: The Greatest Online LED Shoppe Worldwide and scroll to the botton, you'll also see coupons for a few bucks off if you order is over a certain amount. That said, you might want to pick up something else there (just as an aside, I ended up also buying the 20 mW green keychain laser, also very good but to be honest, the beam sometimes dims a bit or getsvery small if the screw-on battery cap gets loose or if I shake it a bit....doesn't really bother me considering how cheap it was and all the nonsesne I put it through  ) It works fine for my purposes and I just make sure the cap is on tight and that I press the on-off button firmly.
Enjoy....

have you ordered one yet ? im based in NZ too (wellington) and probably have a spare 50mw greenie lying around

No I haven't I was going to tomorrow.

I too live in Wgtn. How much would you sell the greenie for, can it pop balloons?
