Fun fact about Checkout lasers

I'm a facilities Manager for a major retailer, and recently read an email concerning the safety of our checkout laser scanners. I don't have the exact info, but essentially it said that our lasers are so eye safe, you'd have to stare into the beam for 16.5 minutes straight without blinking before any damage would occur. There have been several cashiers that have shown concern for working around the lasers. I think this puts that concern to rest ;)

Just thought I'd share.

Every checkout laser that I have ever seen(and the bulk of my work history is retail) oscillates back and forth. Combine that with the low power that it is outputting, and you can see why it is a Class II laser system...very little potential for damaging radiation.
