Wanted the new NUBM07E 465 diode in a single cell 32650 build and try to go as short as possible...

Eliminate the side button switch. :D

Perfect set up for any of the new high power diodes out there! (pricing and options below)

DMagShorty1.jpg

Components:

NUBM07E 465 module from DTR (mine is with G9 lens)

SXB Driver set at 4.5 Amps from Angelos - I think DTR caries these too... I believe Jeff has these as well

McClicky 3 Amp switch for tail cap mod. :cool:

The switch is rated for 3 Amps and I think it's fine putting 7 to 10 Amps through it at only 4 volts... (we always put a bunch more current on switch ratings and the sales page says up to 6Amps at 12Volts)

* I did a 'flush mount' for the tail cap button for better safety... (will also tail stand)

DTR Copper Module:

Perfection...

Most already know, but in case you don't, these modules are awesome.

* I was going to remove the back barrel of the module to get my build about 1/2" shorter but with these awesome solid copper module backs, I decided to leave the module full length. (the inside of the back of the module appears to press against the diode as well)

I went with the G9 lens for a little better beam shape.

SXB Driver from Angelos: (Lazeerer)

Angelos has the best drivers... (IMO)

All of his drivers are awesome. This SXB is unbelievable...

6" Overall Length:

Eliminating the Mag side button switch makes for a much more compact finish...

Assembly:

The following pictures show all the parts and how it goes toghther... :)

Flat Front Option:

It can be about 1/4" shorter if you go for the flat front option. A little less machine work as well... ($20 dollars less)

DMagShorty12.jpg

Very happy with a nice 5 Watt 465... :D

Pricing and options:

Each part of this build is a custom set up so I broke it down so that you can see how it all adds up...

* 2D Mag host - $29
* Re-size the host at both ends to eliminate the side button switch - $48
* Custom aluminum head with flat front - $115 (or add $20 for the custom front)
* SXB 'Hot' option/battery contact plug - $70 (let me know desired current and exactly which diode you will be using)
* McCllicky tail cap mod (flush) - $45
* 1" knurled EzFocus adapter - $24
* 6000mAh 32650 cell - $24
* WF-188 charger - $29
* Shipping based on PayPal fees plus postage... (send PM for total)

Hope you like it! :D

NICE! I was just discussing this type of build w someone?? Looks great !! Confirms my dream was correct. Can't wait 4 my NUBM44 version. R those fins in the heat sink deeper than normal?

Re: NUBM07E 465 DMag Shorty...

Have you actually checked it with an LPM? Mine makes 4.5 watts on 3.8 to 3.9A. I'd bet you're at least hitting 5 watts.

Re: NUBM07E 465 DMag Shorty...

I don't think Jay would post this build without checking the power output. Sweet work Jay.

Re: NUBM07E 465 DMag Shorty...

Gotta love the single cell stubby setup.. amazing build as always

Re: NUBM07E 465 DMag Shorty...

Hi,
Love those Mag Light builds the shorty is a nice choice. I myself like to mod these hosts .I modded quite a few one of them is a 465nm putting out 416nm/ 5A SXD with ramp up/ G2/5500 MW out awesome WL at 416nm.

Very, very nice build !!! Isn't the color of this line a beauty !!!!

What collimation lens did u go with from DTR...G2 or 3 element ?

Very, very compact...and the fins not only perform a much needed thermal management job....but look very nice as well ! Thanx for sharing !

Yours will be coming as soon as I can get to it... :) (3 day weekend - do have to take time for a personal build once in a while ha ha!)

Groove depth - I went about half way through the thickness of the bottom. (mounting end)

My PM3 thermal head only goes to 3 Watts for my Coherent meter. So I say 4.5 to 5 because it is an estimate based on Lazeerer's thread showing power output at different current settings...

But it's the beauty of the wavelength and nice size/feel for a build of this power. :)

Went with the G9...

Yes the color is awesome! I originally was going to go less than 4 Amps (conservative/longevity) but per Angelos, the wavelength gets to about 468nm when you hit 4.5 Amps.

Very happy I went with his advice on the current setting... :cool:

Very nice and compact.
I would like to do a full size mag with 3 or 5 diodes, not knife edged but just all running out together into infinity, I started to drill one by eye and I should have known better, but one day with maybe some m462's so it wont burn up.
Naw jayrob, it would just be for 10-15 second bursts, maybe when m462 get down to 35 bucks or something, just for grins.

What would really be cool is to do 3 single mode 638, 3 single mode blue and a DPSS green, then it would turn white as it shone into the distance.
Like green in the middle and R,B,R,B,R,B.

Wow that would need some heat management! Might be better to do a labby with some active cooling...

Re: NUBM07E 465 DMag Shorty...

Awesome build Jay. That host is a real beast.:beer:

Re: NUBM07E 465 DMag Shorty...

That's a great "stubby" build Jay! :beer:
Which 32650 battery are you using in this monster, and also, is that a custom tailcap, or a modified Maglite cap? Good job either way.
I usually always prefer a side switch, but a tail switch is the only way to go with this beauty!

:thanks:

Thanks Jordan... And thanks for making these diodes with your module/lens available. :beer:

:thanks: For the rep! Right back at when I can... :beer:

Cel is correct - Feilong cell which I stock...

Stock Mag cap - modified... :beer:

Outstanding clean build as always Jay and +REP as usual.
Can anyone see Jordan's links to vids he alludes to on his site toward the bottom where this diode is? Supposed to be a hint at another upcoming diode...

:thanks: +rep right back at you... :beer:

I see where he mentions videos but no links. Probably just needs to edit his page. If you message him I'm sure he can fix it...
