You have no rep, and no one knows who you are.

DO NOT buy this laser till you have absolute proof you know who this guy is. Use a trusted middle man if you want to buy this. Have him send the laser to the middle man, and you send the cash to the middle man. If all is good on both sides the middle man will complete the transaction.

Hey guys, I understand your hesitation and confusion.

I'm new to the laser forum but I'm not new to business or the forum business. I understand trust is a key issue and the internet is rife with scams.

Let me give you a little background about myself. I used to own a high 7 figure performance autoparts business in Hayward, California with 4wd dynamometer and all. I used to import 2 containers/month from Japan and we had a subsidiary company there.

My contact in Japan who specializes in liquidation (for example excess Subaru / Nissan engines) happened to call me and asked me to move a few hundred of these blue Nichia laser diodes for them that they got from some optical company that is BKing.

My question to you guys:

1. Why is the $499 price so unbelievable? I understand samples are expensive, but can't you guys rip them out of production Blu-Rays / DVDs, pointers, projectors, etc.?

2. Since this price seems unbelievable what is the serious level of interest? I would appreciate a PM (or e-mail) with real name, phone number, and qty commitment, so I can decide if it's even worth my time to piece meal these (I have an offer for $425 for the whole lot).

Thanks and best,

Gary

Testing + Warranty

Hi, can you guys tell me what you'd like to see regarding testing and warranty?

1. What test parameters are you looking for? How are these parameters obtained?

2. What type of warranty is required?

I am looking for something fair - For example for race engines I used to offer startup, compression, leak-down, to protect against any legitimate assembly / parts failures, but we'd also have guys that couldn't tune a bicycle dropping in our engines and throwing a rod on the first dyno pass and obviously I wouldn't warranty that. :)

Thanks,

Gary

Sure, we can rip red and violet diodes out of commonly-available consumer electronics, but BLUE diodes aren't sold in any commonly-available consumer electronics.

If legit, your price isn't out of reason in any way. How many do you have, if you have been offered $425 for the lot?

Generally things like this are sold with a working-on-arrival warranty. You never know what a person is going to do to these poor diodes, so working-on-arrival is what I would do if I were you. For that matter, many places/businesses sell with an as-is policy, because it's REALLY easy to break these diodes, and businesses have no idea what customers do with them once they receive them. I could totally understand an as-is policy, but stating that up front isn't exactly a good way to gain trust and boost your sales, ya know?

As far as testing, what people here are actually going to want is someone they trust with their hands on these things showing the results. You're in luck, one of the most-respected and most-capable-of-testing members on this site is located in LA, and I'm certain he would be MORE than happy to hook one of these puppies up and test it for you. His name is daguin, and if you would let him test them and verify what you say, I'm certain you'll have plenty of business, even if you don't get $500 apiece for them, you'll still get plenty of money.

I'm in California and would be happy to test one of your lasers and compare it with 3 473nm DPSS lasers that I have.

It would be interesting to compare the 445nm diode laser with the DPSS...

I would guess that the diode laser would be much more stable output than the DPSS hand held lasers.

But would keep it to a 1 minute duty cycle for the power measurement testing...

All you need is some trusted members to review your product. There is also a very trusted member in your area. (daguin)

I'm pretty sure he would test one as well...

P.S. Can you tell us a little more about the build? What driver, what current, what battery supply, etc...

Hey guys, thanks for all your feedback. I'd be happy to let a respected member in Southern California test these diodes - I'm in OC. Jayrob - I'll be in the bay area (san jose) for memorial day weekend also - how long does the testing process typically take?

Thanks,

Gary

Maybe I have got the wrong end of the stick, but wasn't there a seller on eBay selling 500mw examples of 445nm diodes recently at around this price?

If so these are a little pricey eh.

Dam this looks exciting, it'll be great if these come out being confirmed good diodes.

Hopefully either Jay or Dave get a hold of one of these soon to test :)
