Would it be possible to crank this thing up to the hundreds of mW? I'm guessing it has a massive heatsink, so it could probably handle a much higher output right?

I will not warrant it, but you can try. It's put together solid.

With a 405nm diode you would have to know how many "hundreds" of mW you are asking about AND what the diode in the unit is before that question could be answered

Peace,

THe pointer I created was a while ago and used a Nichia? 405nm CW 100~120mW rated laser diode, similar to PHR

Oh, so that's a different diode than the ones being pushed to ~700 mW. I am not very familiar with them, so please bare with me.

I did not push this one at all. It is rated at 120mW, the lens is attenuating the beam. If you check with JAYROB. He has lenses which work better, but cost $50 or so.
