Hi guys,

Today I finally built my first laser.

I first want to thank all of you guys for helping me out through all this laser magic. Without this forum, I would have been waving a WL Artic around with a Saber attachment and impressing my friends... without goggles.

But now that I've been here and absorbed all the info I could cram, I know better.

For this build, I wanted to go with something unique. It started with rhd's Beacon. After some googling, I found out that the host was offered in three colors: black, silver, and red. The red design specifically caught my eye, and I ordered it just to try it out.

I like it and decided that it would be my first host. However, I wanted it to reflect myself and came up with a heatsink design. Dog's best friend machined it neatly, pressed the diode+module and soldered the leads to the diode for me. :thanks:

I eagerly assembled the unit and turned it on. I was impressed to say the least:

It has a G2 lens, so I believe it will output over 2 watts since the M140 is driven at 1.8A.

I'll probably disassemble and reassemble it and take some pictures on that way, so keep an eye on those.

Cheers!

Never seen a front like that. Very innovative and TRON like effect when lit up. :)

Not every M140@1.8A does 2Watt even with a G1/2 lens. I had once a dud M140. It does 1.2W WITH the G2 lens !! :( The variety is just too big.

That is very nice. How did you get that effect? GITD o rings?

Now you've got me trying to figure it out...

Thanks!

Yes, it's very hard to estimate the power because it's next to impossible to tell the difference between 1W and 2W with the naked eye. I do need an LPM but I guess not just yet. Perhaps a DIY one? ;)

Beautiful... I like the glowing rings!

Thanks guys for the kind words and rep. It really means a lot coming from you vets. :gh:

You got it. Dog's best friend made four threads for GITD o-rings in the conical focus adapter, and they charge up instantly when I point the laser at a while wall. Really really cool! :D

I promise to post beamshots and more in a few days...

Thanks!

Wow! Are you sure this is your first build?

My first build was fail in a Hotlight host.

Nice where did you get that host? Could you hat a pic with it in your hand for a size reference.

Really nice, especially for a first build.
Mine would be just a copy of what others have done at most, still waiting for the parts to arrive.
