I wanted to grab a cheap 405nm pointer, just to see how it would perform. And EBay has just the right prices ;)

Sold as a 5mw pointer.

At 72mw it's a good deal Overspec!

If you are on the look out for an inexpensive 405nm pointer you could do alot worse than this. I'd purchase from the same seller again.

^While that is technically true, the only other option is to not share information which stifles learning and prevents the possibility of positively informing others. It's a risk you take, and is a risk I have personally taken every time I post a youtube video (although certain ones have locked down viewing criteria). The trick is to strike a balance between informing people, and giving "them" ammunition. I've been on other forums (urban exploration) where some people sail very close to the wind (i.e. giving access information) which is obviously beneficial to no one - but a few pictures of a laser are hardly record breaking.

It's also exactly what "they" want - to force things like this under the rug and keep people stupid. Not so much for lasers, but the principle applies to many things, potentially anything that helps keeps the masses stupid and the "system" in control.

The balance wasn't struck. Instead it is waving a red flag to look at Ebay. The poster could have said: I have a new over spec violet laser. If you want to know the power output p m me.

Please stop the non sense of keeping the stupid masses stupid and the system in control. Plain and simple. It is against the law and has been for a few decades.

No information was contained in that thread that was not already known.

I know the millennials and younger generations like to over share but I don't know why people keep showing how overspec laser pointers can be because this site is well known maybe even to the authorities that have the power to tell Ebay not to sell such pointers.

I don't fall into either of the aforementioned groupings. And this was just one of a few other reviews I recently posted. And if the powers that be were all that interested, I'm sure a majority of this site is not in compliance with what said authorities deem legal. I simply wanted to post my findings of various lasers purchased from various sources; this was just one of them......
