DX True 50mW IR leakage test

just out of curiousity. i conducted a simple IR test by shining my laser through some red kool-aid and using my camera to see the IR which got thru.

this is at about 5 inches away from the wall

and at about 18 inches away it diverged quite a bit

the black mark is my burnt CCD lol. i also mixed that kool-aid JUST RIGHT so it was just thick enough to absorb the green

Yeah, I tried that with a 30mW one as well, using an IR camera and an IR pass filter on it. It does indeed diverge very quickly, even though it was pretty bright under a meter or so. Been meaning to do a real measured divergence test though.
