I just received the DX 200mw Green Laser 18650 from Deal Extreme.

I ordered this Laser back on May 9, 2008. Back ordered for 42 days.

Cost $184.00


Made of Aluminum, Type II Anodize. The Anodize is very good. I give the grade A.

Fit is good. The threads on the battery tube is a little rough. I give the grade B

Uses a 18650 sized battery which is supplied. I think it's a DLG Brand.

Needs to have a keyed lockout device installed to operate. A good safety feature. This is not a Toy!

I recommend to use a good Laser Safety Glasses for eye protection.

Momentary on switch.

Blue indicator on light when button is pressed.

Green adjustable beam.

Wave Length : 532nm

Left adjustable knurled ring controls the built in cover. Turn clockwise or counter-clockwise to cover the laser.

Right adjustable knurled ring controls the beam size. Turn clockwise to enlarge the beam. Counter-clockwise to narrow the beam.

Any thoughts on performace though? Output power, stability, divergence?

Hehe.. you'd be surprised it works at all when the 'batteries are placed in North Korea' while you are playing with it in the us or europe ;p
 
do you have any power readings? Im thinking i may just trade my 50mW for the 150mW version

then i take it you got one of the good lasers!
but from the looks of it you got a 3.3V battery. If you want it to run at it's best output you want a 3.7V battery.

My laser had a faulty push button, this small problem limited me from using this great laser. while it lasted it was bright, powerful, and burned.
When i tried to push the button i had to press hard, and the LED light would barely light up or not at all. I could not fully take this apart either to try and solder the switch to always be on and use the key as an on/off.

I have been running AW's Protected 18650. The battery comes hot off the charger at 4.2V.

I took my Laser to work and popped one of those rubber gloves we use for protection. We filled it with air and tied up the end. It took about 10 seconds at about 1 foot to pop the glove. We use the gloves to protect our hands from Jet Fuel, Skydrol etc.

Thats what is keeping me from ordering one of these - i detest momentary switches even if they work properly. I think there should be a way to bypass it, but i'm not spending $184 on it until i'm certain.

Also, i've read some people reported that the focus cant be set all the way to infinity - how is that with this laser?

The on off button on my laser works fine.

I have heard others out there say they use a tie wrap to hold the button down in the on postion. They just slide it over the button to keep the button down. I haven't tried it but it should work with no problems.

If you mean when the focus set to infinity, is it when you can set the beam to a very fine point? My laser can ber set to a very fine point. It does not seem to have any focusing problems, set to fine or wide.

thats really no problem, that just means instead of the finest point being closer to the laser it would be a bit further.

instead of

if that makes any sense what i just made.
the fine point is just a bit further out, not a problem ;)
 
i think he's referring to the fact like i've noticed with my 50mW version in that you cannot focus the beam for long distance pointing - but it's an easy fix all you have to do is unscrew the shutter part of the laser and the focusing lens will be exposed, this has an adjustment itself that you can change to make the focus work properly
 
when people say focus to infinity how far is that really?
when my MXDL was working, i was able to light a match from 12 feet away, but this was not FOCUSED, this was the normal sized dot, and it took a few seconds to actually light. i was not able to get it any smaller than the normal sized dot.
The most I've actually got a laser to focus (and focus meaning at a fine point) is maybe a foot or 2.

How do you unscrew the shutter part?
