Hello there, im new here :)
Umm... Its like this: I found a dvd burner and i googled the model everyone says it was a 16x burner, ofc I went happy and opened it and everything, took the laser out and so.

Now when i connect the laser to 2x AA-Batteries (1,3v AND 1,5v, both tested) the light is NOT at all strong, everything what happen is: The Diode turn SO hot so you can't touch it :/

(OLD, Before this new laser) I had a laser what i broke xD i put + and + on the diode's -.... so something happend, the diode went warm and some smoke was coming, then it stoped working, but the light i got from it was so strong so it blended me in that tiny room i was in...

some pics (used 1.5v battery 2x AA) VERY HIGH RESOLUTION, will take to load!
This is a pic OF the laser, it look like it should? right?

How the wires are connected

The laser in DARKNESS, Directly IN the kamera lens, not strong?

Here we see the "great" power! goot isn't it? '>.>

And here you see HOW close the laser was the table (mousemat).. http://nic0o.webng.com/20090920514.jpg

Someone tell me, do i need a lens, what is wrong with the laser?? :S The 1.4v batterys is 2700mAh so the power is no problem? :S

edit: ALL THE PICS IN A RAR (swedish page upload now): http://data.fuskbugg.se/skalman01/laserpics.rar

you cannot hook a diode straight to a battery it usually kills it
a driver regulates the current to the diode -saving its life
stickies are in each section look in exoeriments and modification
and yea if it smoked and wasn't installed in a proper heatsink its dust

people said just to watch the polarity (or what it is) but, would you say what i shall do now?
Do i need something like a AIXIZ Module or something?

please explain what you mean by Driver (a aixiz module?) and stickes (no clue what that is)

the OLD laser smoked this is a "new" one (old dvd drive)

http://laserpointerforums.com/f36/basic-faqs-read-before-posting-38275.html

start here i know its difficult and it will take time i dont want to blow you off i like helping out its just the info is here you just need to read for a few days
before you keep asking simple questions that have been asked 24,000 times already
1) you can buy another 16x diode for 10 bucks
2) youll need a aixis housing to install it in
3) a driver is a must i recommend rkcstrs -
4) youll have to carefully remove then re-press in the aixis housing
5) expect to kill your first couple of lasers -its normal dont get discouraged
6) if jerry catches me helping you out before you read the stickies i'll be in big trouble:spank:

Danged! You ARE fast. It took me several hours to get through all the stickies. However, I am just an old college professor, I don't have a young quick mind like you obviously do.

You are a kind, caring young man. I, on the other hand, am a cynical, callous old man.

-The diode is blown.

-You need a driver (little electronic board)

-Put the diode in a module (like the aixiz)

-Popular drivers are rkcstr and flexdrive (there are many others too)

-Read the different stickys and USE THE SEARCH

ok basically this is how it works.. when you connect the batteries to the diode you are sending large amounts of currents to the diode, which will destroy it! a driver (electrical circuit) regulates the current going to the diode. you will need to buy a driver and set its current to the prefered current for the diode, for example PHR-803T (blu-ray) diodes run at a safe level of around 100ma (milliamps) for a red diode it will be differnet! next you will need a heat sink, to dissipate all the heat given off by the diode! you must install the diode in the aixiz module first, this then goes into a heatsink.

by the way.. your laser had LED'ed (meaning it has turned into a little colored light) this is why its power is so low! if you really want to get into this hobby you should read all you can before jumping into a project like this!

hope that helped! -Adrian
