ok i got my open can from the monk and when i was soldering it to the driver a drop of solder fell from my soldering iron and connected all three pins.I've tried solder brad and a vacuum like thing and nothing works. How can i desolder it.I also tried my blu-ray today for the first time and it's an led. >:( :'(

sometimes if you get the solder hot then carefully sling it away from you or anything else including your eyes the solder will fall off -this is a tricky technique
ive had lots of practice usually screwing stuff up though :P

EDIT I have read the diode is heat sensitive although I have never tried this on a diode before
so I do not know how well it would work carefull :-/

yeah i can only go for 5 sec at a time or the diode will get too hot.

why and would 400ma work
400mA would fry it instantly if it's alive, even if you got a freak diode. Try putting 75mA through it to see if it lights up.

75mA, are you crazy? ;D (unless he has one of those freaks from an xbox HD drive)
If it's not one of the freak ones just start from 0mA and work your way up until it starts to lase, once it starts lasing add 10 more mA and leave it there.

As for the open can, is it in an aixiz module? If it's not then there's a high chance you could've killed it. All you can do now is to get the solder off the diode's pins however you can. Then solder wires to the pins and hope for the best.

your doing pretty good to short out all three pins with solder. seriously you should be able to easily melt the solder and just flick it off the pins or turn the diode upside down and just work the solder down with the aid of gravity and flick it off the end of the pins. there is heaps of room between the pins. I'm sure you will be able to fix it.

I store all of my loose diodes with the pins bridged with a blob of solder.   Here's how I remove it:

Pick yourself up some solder flux (rosin):

And some desoldering braid:
http://www.radioshack.com/product/i...duct+Type/Accessories&fbc=1&parentPage=family

Now, apply a little flux to the soldered pins.  Take the desoldering braid, lay it on top of the pins.  Touch the top of the braid with your soldering iron, you'll see the solder drawn into the braid, hold for only a second or two and remove.  It should have removed most if not all of the solder.

Typically you won't use flux with the braid, but with the pins, it helps to draw the solder off them better, so I use it.

Damn! :o How much did you pay for the diode? Got to be a little more careful on those expensive LD's! :P The desoldering braid should work if the solder sucker doesn't work. Just make sure there is no solder contacting the pins to ground (except for the ground pin). You can try setting your iron (if you have an adjustable one) to less power so the solder is more sticky and less runny. And what you mean you tried it out and it's a led? I assume you're speaking prior to your soldering mess right? (no offence). What did you power it with?

styropyro - one more post to 1337! I don't know what that means but everybody seems to make a deal about it! lol
