Directly Power LD with PSU

No Idea about that supply but the price range is similar to the Chinese ones. I know Blord uses on of these Chinese units to directly drive diodes.

These units may be prone to spikes so you might want to add a capacitor on the output when testing laser diodes. Make sure you short out the output before connecting a diode.

Great point. I wonder how bad this thing oscillates??? Maybe I'll just buy a scope too and test it out myself...

I have a mastech HY1803D and love it. Got mine for $40 from a member. Can't imagine it's too much more new.
It's the same one DTR and many other members use.

Joshua;

I have previously used a very similar Mastech supply.

It does have spikes when turned on and off.

If you ramp up voltage . . .

and ramp down voltage it is OK.

I did lose some Red laser diodes with it.

Here is a good company to buy an inexpensive (~$50) lab supply from:

Benchtop Power Supply, Variable Bench Power Supplies | MPJA.COM

I have moved up to a more stable Extech switching supply,

The 4 Digit readout allows plotting diodes with better precision.
