Cypreus IIIb revolution with 20x dioptika beam expander

Well, after a long pause I'm back with a lot of new projects. :wave:
First of all, I have modified again my "old" Cypreus IIIb, so after the first model and the second one (reloaded), I completed the series with the "revolution" model (Matrix docet LOL).
The last build was this:

and now, I'm pleased to introduce You the final build.

This is the huge Dioptika 20x beam expander:



... mounted thru a very nice CNC'ed aluminum adapter:

The dot is so tiny that it is able to drill a thick paper white cardboard at 2 meters from the aperture almost instantly:



Cutting a red cardboard at 50 cm from the aperture:


Conclusion:
this is a great beam expander but of course it is not suitable for the guys that love tiny beams :D
I'm a little bit disappointed about the power loss: the three elements glass lenses plus the Dioptika beam expander eat up about 2.4W of power from the original 6.5W diode output.
But this is a price to pay to have a drilling laser :crackup::crackup:

I always look forward to your new projects. That dioptika 20X beam expander is impressive, the dot size at 900 meters is amazing!

What do you estimate the dot size is at 2 meters?

Very nice build.

Have you ever taken a power reading at say 25 meters?
Your build with the cyl shaping prior to the expander I expect will produce the best results, in theory a perfect focus of our MM diodes would be a rectangle shaped spot, a very tiny rectangle, a round spot suggest some clipping.

x BowtieGuy: I can obtain the minimum focus at 50 cm from the aperture!
This was possible only changing the input beam focus with the help of the G2 lens.
It is impossible to determine the size, it is too bright!
I tried to determine the diameter with a white cardboard, but after its perforation the paper catches fire !!:oops:

xRedCowboy: first I must found a power cable and a USB cable 25 meters long eheh. My lab is in a 3x4 room and it is a drama to move the instuments around the home LOL.
This was the last build without corrective optics. Soon I will post two reviews regarding two masterpieces from CDBEAM with corrective optics and two different models of LINOS BE .. stay tuned !

I'd question the 20x figure unless you're doing some strange collimation before hand. Initial diameter is 4mm which would make a final beam of 80mm. The final lens isn't even that large.

Yeah You are right.
The trick is to found the right beam diameter and divergence before the entrance of the first small lens of the BE. The trick is simple ... when I completely untwist the BE, I look to the fast axis profile against the surface of the last big lens: if the extreme parts of the fast axis profile touch the walls of the BE, probably the bar is truncated.
So I proceed to twist/untwist the G2 lens until a see a centered full bar projected against the surface of the last big output lens. Usually I create a bar at the dead center of the big lens surface, leaving 1-2 mm from the fast axis bar extremities and the edge of the big lens:

Doing so, I have a full power output, a short focus chance, and a nice gap between the min and the max focus.
There is only a risk: if the focus is perfectly centered over the surface of the first BE input lens, there are some chances to burn the lens coating, especially if the coating is not the ideal one for the frequency of the diode.
For example, a 355 nm coating will be destroyed with a super-collimated 467 nm beam against the lens surface!

Google tells me the max output diameter is 31mm. That means you can't get more than 7x expansion with a nominal 4mm beam. You could only get 20x if the initial beam was 1.5mm or less

Yes, but with G2 lenses I will obtain the beam diameter that I wish, until a pinheads!
Besides this, I can decide if the input beam will be convergent (focus after the first input lens, aka inside the beam expander) or divergent (focus before the first input lens), and this will create different behaviours :)
