just bought this mirror from surplushed and can for the life of me figure out how to make the thing spin.
its a bipolar stepper motor with 16 wire leads coming from it. ive been told to test for continuity so i did and grouped together the proper cables (i think) but i still get nothing.
has anyone else bought this model?

If they don't know how to get them running, drop me a PM. These are pretty cheap, so I figure I can pick one up and see if I can figure out how to get it going. Seems a bit odd to use a stepper instead of feedback control. Are you sure it's a stepper?

First, though, connect a multimeter or oscilloscope to each combination of pins while manually spinning it. You may want to abuse an eggbeater for the purpose, as they go pretty fast (some chemistry dude figured out that they can actually replace centrifuges for blood plasma seperation).

There are 240 combinations on a 16 pin connector. Which combinations give a signal out when spinning the mirror should tell us all a lot more about driving these things. Post the results and maybe someone can help out from that. And, as the other poster said, if Fred knows how to run them, post the info here. :)
