I created this thread to share images of my coin collection.:D

My collection is very small, but it's still something. I pretty much just have a collection of coins, and don't really get them anymore. It just sits in the dust, so I decided it was time to get it out and have a look.
I apologize if there is already a thread for this. I Googled first to see.

There are a lot of images. The last one is a box of civil war bullets, and a uniform button, that is in a plastic container upside down, and for some reason, a nickel.

Please post your images of your collections (if you have them)!

Most of mine are in a safe in a different state. I need to get the 2014 proof sets before they are gone from the mint. I don't want to pay double or more elsewhere. There are quite a few sets I wish I bought 2 or more of. The 2006 American Eagle silver coins are one of those. They were going for $200+ on Ebay after people started getting them. Some even had them graded with individual coins going for $150 or more. The set was $100 if I remember right.

That's a good collection. How much is yours valued at? Mine is about $375 worth of coins, not much, but for me, it's extra money when I need it.

I snag 1981 and older pennies, they're 95% copper. newer ones are copper plated zinc, and weigh a lot less. at current copper prices, each real copper penny has a value of around 2 cents, if the US ever does away with the penny as some other nations have, it will be legal to melt them down for the copper value, one could in theory double their money, if you don't mind holding on to pennies. some 1982 pennies were 95% copper, you can tell either by weighing them or flipping them in the air with your finger. copper ones "ring", zinc ones do not

this demonstates the debasing of our currency, getting worse all the time. the silver came out in 1964, and by 1982 even copper was too valuable to use in our ever more virtual currency.

anyone know why the sides of dimes and quarters are reeded? its a tradition from rome. back then, when rome or other parties wanted more money, they could shave the edges of a coin to make more coins. people caught on though, so the coins were reeded to see if any valuable matal had been shaved. today the tradition continues even though they have been debased in another, more sinister way. that ugly copper slice in the center of quarters and half dollars is even worse than finding a silver or gold coin with scraped away reeding. the irony is not lost on me

cracks me up when I hear attacks against things like bitcoin saying it's virtual money, not real. our money is already this way. its a misnomer you hear when you hear about "printing money" in reality, even that is too slow and inconvenient for the amount of inflation we have. now they just add 1s and 0s to a computer and poof, the government has more money. only around 3% of all dollars exist in physical form

coin collecting is a great way to learn history, as well as learn about our monetary system (which is totally ****ed) I encourage it. I don't have much left, though I used to have some large cents from 1834 and 1817. they were about the size of a half dollar today, but were in fact pennies. tells you pennies were actually worth something. you wouldnt carry many of those around if they were worthless. we used to have half cents too.

Wait really? Are you sure. I thought the readed edge was because some dies grip the edge of certain size coins and leave an imprint. But I haven't even Googled it. I just red it in the Blue Book.

Yep, the reeded edges were to "prevent theft." Silver would smooth out over time anyway because it is soft.

Hay, that's funny, I just started sorting out the copper pennies at our house last week:)
I've actually been interested for a very long time, not as a serious collector but just for fun. Mainly like asking people going on a trip to a foreign country to bring some coins back for me or if I found a neat coin/bill here or there.

From this last week I went through about $25 of pennies, got 16 wheats, a dime, a euro, and a bunch Canadian pennies.:D About 25%-30% are copper.
Most interesting of all this week is that when I went to the bank I also asked for half dollars, not expecting anything interesting (since most of the good stuff should be gone), they had 3 rolls which is $30. Went home and looked through them and to my surprise I found one 1969, 40% silver! Pretty nice for my first try.

luck bastard. I went one day and got two boxes, $1000 worth, and found no 1964s and older, and not even any 1965-1969 40%ers. NOT ONE!!! been considering getting $100 or so worth of pennis to go through. at least you dont need to check the date often. its pretty obvious looking at the side of a stack of quarters/dimes/halves if any are silver

I think to date I have found one 1964 quarter, and one 1964 dime, and one 1944 war nickel in circulation. once I found a penny with no obverse or reverse, just a blank penny, a minting error. cant remember what I did with it, it might have been worth something. find lots of wheaties, though less and less often

If anyone wants, I can pm me and I can send someone a few coins for free. Free shipping too.

First person who wants them. Maybe a silver quarter and half dollar, maybe some old pennies.

USAbro, sent ya a pm.

I don't need any penny newer than 1940, since that is the oldest one I have. Except maybe a 1943 steel penny, been hoping to find one (or 1944 Steel penny:whistle: :gun: ;))
Obviously your call, though.

Mattronium, I'll send a few 1943 steel pennies if I can. Along with what I Pm'd you. I'll take out the post 1940 pennies though.

@shakenaway, I have a bunch of those nickels but not many stamps. When I get more maybe I'll send some.

@Mattronium-Sealed an envelope with two pre-1964 quaters, and liberty head nickel (I think), six 1943 pennies, and maybe a Indian head penny.

Sorry, I forgot where I put my large stock of silver half-dollars. Could be in the attic. I hope it arrives, read my PM.
