First impressions. (Laserhead)

First off in my opinion I love this laser head.
However is was expecting it to be a bit bigger.
However is does have a lot of positive’s
1. It’s easy to mount.
2. it’s not to big but provides more then enough cooling for the diode
3. And it’s easy to replace the diode in case it ever dies
Beam specs seem to be around 1 mrad
And the beam diameter is 4.5 mm
And there are more than enough mounting holes on the bottom side of the laser head.

Also it produces a nice round beam

First impressions. (Driver)

The driver does look kind of cheap but it does the job perfectly.
The current for this specific diode was set at 180 mA.
The blanking input can handle up to 10khz.
This should be more than enough for most applications.
Also it has a soft start feature.
So don’t be worried when your laser does not turn on immediately

Beam quality is great no distortions or reflections.
Focus can be changed by turning the lens on the front of the module.
Mine was slightly out of focus when it arrived.

Now for the output power
The module is rated as 100 mw 655 nm
My first measurement just after power on peaked at 122 mw.
After 15 minutes I took a other measurement this one came in at 119 mw
After 1 hour I took a other measurement at this point the module was about 25 degrees.
And was doing about 127 mw so that’s a free 27 mw not bad for a module In this price range.

Overall this module seems to perform very well.
Its output is stable and free of distortions and reflections
The entire module costs 78 dollars including shipping
So the price is also very reasonable
Shipping to Europe took about 1 week
So overall I would recommend this module to anyone
Who wants to build a laser projector on a budget.
Also this module is available in a 200 mw version.
So it would be possible to combine 2x200 mw modules to say about 350 mw after all the combining optics.
The only thing that would be needed is a polarized beam combiner / splitter.
And these can be found on ebay for a couple of dollars

Looks like a nice module - at least for the heatsinked head. I suppose you could get much more power out of it when you insert a better diode and driver to match current required. Personally i'd go for the cheaper DX modules though, the heatsink seems similar in size and performance at a lower price.
 
Ah, thats a good reason in itself :)

I noticed that the DX heatsink fits aixisz modules pretty well though, so if you want you can insert an aixisz (with glass lens) into them and use them as cooling that way.

I see the same vendor also has 200 mW versions, though only sold in pairs right now - might be attractive especially if they are equally overspecced.

yea the dx heads works great as a heatsink host need to get me one of those 2
