i am thinking of building me a cdrw laser 780nm ir from a 52x cdrw and mounting in a axixz for cheaps (have 9 yes 9 of these waiting to be harvested) i expect around 180mw ir anyone have any idea what current i should drive it at with a lm317 driver?

Phenol had a 48x IR LD being driven at 150mA and he said it died, he then got another one and drove it at 120mA, (or 130mA, I don't remember which one) I think it's been working fine until now.
Adgmeijin also got a 48x LD and he's been driving it at 140mA for a month. So far it's still going strong.
So IMO I think you could drive your 52x LD at about 150mA using a DDL driver and get an output of a little bit over 100mW.

im actually driving mine at 140 mA. it's been like this for months now. i dont observe any duty-cycle precautions with it and it's still doing fine. someone said he had pushed his to 170ma shortly and then back down to 130 and experienced no poofage.

right , i have run my 48x CDRW laser for almost a month at 140ma still running well and strong, no problem ;D i think 52x CDRW laser may be better than mine, keep up good ;) :)

right so 52 should do good at 150-160ma well i have 9 to chew through :P and i have 4 axixz modules.. me thinks the pbs cubes from the sleds well come in handy

if i estimate 90-100mw from each at 150ma after optical losses im looking at 300mw

will start in a few weeks (moving house) and necro this thread with edits when i start
