Hey guys! Ill just start by saying that lasers are freaking awesome, and anybody that disagrees really should just press the button of a 20+mw 532nm...

That being said, I jut got into actually owning a couple lasers that aren't plastic $5 red pet lasers haha.

My first laser was going to be a "5mw" green with a star kaleidoscope cap from usbgeek.com, and so I ordered it! Took a couple weeks to get, and I was disappointed to open the package and find a violet laser.. Which they don't even sell! On the pointer it is rated at <30mw and after playing with it I learned to enjoy it. I contacted them and they promptly re-sent the correct laser.

Once I got it, input the battery in, the star cap on, and fired it up... "Now THIS is the laser I paid for!"
It doesn't have a danger label on it, so I'm not sure what the rating is, but with a fresh AAA, it will melt-deform thin black plastic, and with a magnifying glass will burn thicker black plastic. Also the beam is very visible at night and can even point out individual stars.

After playing with those I decided to order a 50mw 532nm from Lazerer.com
In a couple weeks when I get to use it, I will review it.

So yeah! Other than lasers, I like to play with skill toys such as kendama and Yo-Yo. I also like to unicycle and pretty much anything else that is super cool, mentally engaging, or just fun!!

In a couple months I plan to start my first laser build, and will use this forum every step of the way! I'm excited to be apart of this forum, and look forward to the many good interactions to come!

Happy lazering!

Hey there,

Welcome to the forums! It's great to see you're already thinking about giving back to the forum.

Also, Please don't go by the warning sticker on a laser. They are usually not accurate. You can get '1mW' lasers on eBay for $4 shipped which are actually upwards of 30mW... The problem here is people think there '1mW' lasers are safe for their eyes when it's actually doing them damage.

Please be sure to read over all of the rules and stickies. Also try and utilise the search bar as much as possible...

That being said, Welcome to the forums!

Welcome to the forum, Cameron! This place is a vault of knowledge, and your willingness to learn is the only key.

It's a pleasure to see someone from Spokane here. I grew up in Spokane as a kid, and moved away in '81, after putting up with Mt. St. Helens' ash for a year. I get up there, occasionally, to visit. But, I wonder if I'd be happy living through those damned winters again.

Enjoy your stay! If you ever have any questions or want a custom handheld laser made, drop me a line. +1 to your rep, just for being in Spokane!

Thanks guys!
SBA: yeah the winters here can be pretty chilling... It's nice to get away to the mountains in the winter to snowboard though! So many close places to go ride. But if you are someone who does not like to be cold, then this is not the town for you! Haha.

Hello Cameron, its good to have yet one more person here from Washington state. There seems to be only several of us and the others don't post much. I do remember the very cold winters and snow in eastern Washington. I was born at Fairchild AFB and lived in Walla Walla for many years. The weather is milder here on the western side. Welcome to the forums.

WELCOME!!!

maybe you can start a social group for laser nerds up your way..

Platinum hosts a nice 'meet'(LEM) in portland. These are a lot of fun
especially for those of us who have no one living near the even speaks broken 'laser' PLUS hands-on help is better and having access to a LPM- it good, Many need to know if they were sold a 'bill of goods' along with their lasers.

hak
+a welcome +3 and also for putting your location in your profile- that is a 'hak's pet peeve'-
