Hello there folks.
I've been browsing round the forum lately searching for a nice PSU for my upcoming RGB laser.

I've locked onto a few brand names such as Mastech, Atten and Agilient .

However, there is a problem .
Who do I even buy it from?
I heard that if I buy from an unauthorized vendor , the warranty between the product I purchase and the manufacturer automatically ceases to exist.

And thats just half the problem.
Which one is the official Mastech site?
Mastech Power Supply - Best Deals on Variable Power Supplies (Powered by CubeCart)
Mastech Power Supply - Variable DC Power Supply

Another thing that is weird is the shipping.

I live in Hong Kong you see, and lets take this product for example.

Atten APS3003S Variable 30V 3A DC Power Supply Lab Grade
$65 for a nice standard economic PSU . So far so good.
But then theres the shipping.
its gonna cost $85 USD to ship it locally.
How much does it cost to ship it to Spain?
$85.
Denmark?
$85
Ireland?
Also $85.

For one, I have no idea which company site is going to be genuine, some of them don't even have a site.
For two, there is something SERIOUSLY WONKY with the shipping on eBay.

Just who do I even buy PSU from???

Ebay fee's aren't applied to shipping costs, by moving some of the purchase price to the shipping the seller avoids the fee's.

For the UK some stuff is priced at $10 for the item and $400 shipping,

best wishes

so basically , that makes them a cheat?
And then about the problem with the official company site.
where the heck is it???
How do I even know I am buying a genuine product but not a cheap knockoff?

Any LPF recommended sellers for PSUs?

With the greatest respect to our Chinese brothers and sisters there are a LOT of cheap knockoff items available there,(some great items too) but something that has always bothered me too is the lack of company sites or emails that all run via hotmail, gmail etc.

Even when there is a site such as www.abcdeflasersllc.com.uk with a nice page you click contact and it directs to a hotmail email.

At the moment there is a big problem in the cutting laser world with PSU's, the best ones are made using Sony parts, of late though there are a LOT of Chinese made copies of Sony parts doing the rounds, slightly lower price but 20% of them are DOA :(

best wishes

Dave

I'm not surprised .
However, considering how I am looking at Chinese made PSU overhere that cost almost 1/3 of what other does.
You pay for what you get eh?

But there's still the question of... who do I buy it from??

I got my PS from Circuit Specialists. They are in the USA, shipping is the fastes I have seen, and the products are quite good.

I continue to recommend buying used. You can get higher power with better regulation from a better brand for a lower price, but no one listens to me.

You are not allowed to complain about price if you refuse to buy used.

It's "whom" by the way.

Used PSU ... ehh... I've seen quite of few of those.
They date as far back as to the 1980s tho lol
Some HP PSU looks like they were ripped off from the Battleship Wisconsin lol

On a side note.
OH JOY!
It appears half that shipping price is the insurance ,which I can shave off by picking it up in person. :shhh:
