hey i (being a total idiot) bought one of those spymodex lasers (this was before i knew about this forum) and after two days the diode blew, and now only puts out arround 5mw. unfortunatly, the tech team has not returned my emails, and their phone is disconected, so a refund is pretty much out of sight.
im not lying when i say that i enjoyed the laser while it worked, its got a great casing and focusing lense, so i was wondering if there was some way i could replace the diode.

I reckon you'd be able to replace that if you take it apart :)

Stick a long open can diode in there and you're set :) Though if you have a multimeter it would be good to see what the driver in the laser currently is outputting. That'll tell you if you need a different driver to run the new diode, or if you can just use the same driver.

im still having trubble getting the diode out, the indents that i would use to spinn out the holding plates could fit something like a pen tip into them, but the thing is in there too tight, anyone got any ideas?

If Daves idea doesn't do it for you what I have done is to find 2 screws and nuts where the end of the screw will fit into the holes. Measure the centres of the holes and drill 2 holes in a piece of ali or steel, at a push wood, on the same centre distance. Push in the screws, do the nuts up and you have yourself a spanner....

...I haven't a photo of mine so have done a quick sketch, hope it helps.

Or even cheaper, get a large paperclip or stiff wire and bend to fit. Then use some pliers to spin it.
