Hey everyone I'm in the market to buy a bench power supply. I would like a digital one. I would like it for powering diodes before installing them in host to test there outputs, as well as power hosts after a build to get good lpm readings. I've seen a few mastertech's for under $100, but not sure of the quality. What do you guys have or recommend? I'm not looking to spend a fortune. Thanks.

I think you mean Mastech, and they the best quality in that price range. I've got a 18V3A version that has excellent regulation, and others have used the 15V5A version which is also quite good.

You can save a lot of money by buying used and waiting patiently. Here are a few that are ending in the next few hours:

Extech 382203 Three Output DC Regulated Power Supply 0 30V 3A | eBay
Xantrex Sorenson XT 15 4 Regulated DC Power Supply 15V 4A Adjustable | eBay
HP Agilent E3614A DC Power Supply 0 8V 0 6A See Details | eBay
Leader 718 5D DC Power Supply 0 18V 0 5A | eBay
C96123 Lambda LK 342A FMV DC Power Supply Input 208VAC Output 0 36VDC 5 2A | eBay
KRM Aeec 300 Digital Display Adjustable DC Power Supply Unit 300V Portable PSU | eBay

That one is probably as good as any other at that price. Sometimes it's nice to have two PSUs or 2-in-1 so you can supply power on one output and control with the other.

You can always get that one and then when you want to upgrade you'll have a second one on hand which is always handy.

I can recommend this 18V-3A one, from Amazon for under $80.

Mastech HY1803D variable dc power supply

The few percentage points more we pay with Amazon is worth it, in my opinion, in case you have a problem and need to return it. Buying something from eBay often means you must repair it, yourself, if something goes wrong.

I have the same model 30V-5A but other name. The stock leads (18AWG) and the male plug isn't very good. I have change that to silicone 14AWG leads from Hobbyking, gold-plated connector and copper crocodile clip. :)

Could you give us link for it?

This is the one I just got delivered. Lower in the link, they have examples of why this one is supposed to be better than the Mastech. I suppose I will find out one way or another.

Congrats, man! I love mine! It's so handy. Do you mind if I ask what that heatsink cost? Now that I have an LPM arriving tomorrow, it's time I got one too!

I don't recall as I got it with 2 custom heatsinks. But I did choose to get it with it fined and with a base plate.
