Re: 150mW vs 400mW beam

If you'd like I can take some pictures of my >400mW PGL (actual average is 650mW) compared to various other lasers. I've got 140mW, 65mW, 10mW greens and some red and violets.

Re: 150mW vs 400mW beam

I've had an RPL 400 for a brief period (I returned it because of a divergence problem with misaligned crystals, but the power was there) and it wasn't significantly brighter than my RPL 300 (my RPL 300 does between 250-300, old unit). Hercs are more than just about power though, that's why I'm getting mine ;)

So you're definitely getting it are you? Neat. We're going to have a lot of fun next year I think ;)

Re: 150mW vs 400mW beam

About hearing, you must increase sound by 10dB in order to hear the sound twice as loud. 10dB is about 10 times as loud, masured with a dB meter (each 3dB is 2 times). It's the same for light. Going from 150mW to 1500mW will look twice as bright. Going from 150 to 400mW I assume will not be a very big visual difference, but ofcourse you'll see it is brighter. I think you'll see it better when trying to burn things, and how much faster you can light matches, burn through black CD covers etc.!! However I have no experience with 400mW vs 150mW, but I do know the eyes see twice as bright if the actual brightness is 10 times stronger - generally speaking ;)

Re: 150mW vs 400mW beam

The formula for sound intensity is a logarithmic function, but I didn't think light brightness was a logarithmic function like you described, Low-Q. I could easily be wrong though; I'm not sure about it.

Eh, just remember that LaserGlow don't offer a guarantee you'll get it, they just give your money back if you don't get it. Still though, I'm interested to see how it all works out.

USA customs allow Class III & IV to be imported as long as they have safety features and FDA accession #. Getting it shouldn't be a problem.

Pictures tomorrow.

Yep should be no problem now that I am no longer in Australia.

Edit: looking forward to the pics :)

We're talking Australia, not USA here. FDA is an American thing, all laser pointers over 1mW are illegal in Australia regardless of safety features.

Huh? Where are you now?

I'm aware. I just noticed that Laze_Doctor is located in USA according to his profile.

I didn't tell you Murudai, I'm finishing off my final year of uni at NYU.

Re: 150mW vs 400mW beam

Here are some pics... the 65mW green was doing 75-80mW tonight (cool weather) and the 140mW was doing only about 130mW (likes to be warm, low batteries). The 140mW green is not in it's permanent host yet, so it looks a bit awkward right now.

Pics uploaded here: Laser 01 - a set on Flickr

For those that don't feel like clicking the link I'll post a few here for you to look at.

There is a bit of smoke in the air... I was cooking. But I try to take "honest" beam shots so no added smoke or fog. :)

Wow, that's way better than I expected! Your PGL has a very nice beam indeed. +1

Thanks!
Keep in mind that the PGL is about 4.5 times more powerful than the 140mW green. Your mileage may vary.

I'll be looking forward to seeing how your Herc does. :)
