I am considering ordering a 200mw green O-like module whan thay come back in stock and was wondering if anyone on this forums owns a higher power green laser in the power range of about 500-600mw green to compare that to a 200mw green beam (thin). If the difference is really big I think I might just save up and get the 500-600mw green for Christmas instead! I know the 600mw will be brighter but visibly how much? Is there any links that anyone knows that shows a comparison of these two? THANKS!

hey, good question, i am really curious about it too as i have ever seen just 50-100mw in person and i have to say that it is soooo clearly visible and awesome that i really cant imagine it could be even better..

I believe for 532nm, a laser needs to be 4x the mW power to be twice as bright, so in short not twice as bright. That ratio is really basic though and not entirely accurate.

I can't say about 200mW, but there is a significant difference between 150mW and ~600mW.
I can post comparison pictures of 50mW vs. >600mW if you'd like... I don't have a 100-200mW range green at the moment.

I'd love to see new pics of that CNI!

SURE! Post any pics you have in comparison that would be of great help. Thanks.

i have a 50mw lasers and a 450 rpl that peaks at 581 and i can say their is quite a bit difference between 50 and 581 heck even between 581 and 478 you can tell a little

Here you go...
Beamshots-
PGL-III-C 400: >650mW pure 532nm :D
LEDshoppe 50: >50mW pure 532nm

Edit: By the way, the air here was surprisingly clean with low humidity. Auto exposure. The most true to life pictures were selected.

Wow you are so lucky. I'm saving up for that one also. So overspec, so awesome!

I have a Dragon Viper 125mw which outputs 150-175mw on a new battery and an under-spec DX Firepoint 500mw which fluctuates between 380 and 450mw. The Viper has a very tight beam compared to the Firepoint.

Visually, the two look fairly similar in terms of brightness per unit area, but the Firepoint spot is obviously bigger. Burning ability is similar. Overall the Firepoint is probably more impressive simply because of the spot size, but there is not a great deal in it. I think it is more a question of what features you value (focusability, portability, on-off button etc). If I had to choose I would probably get the Viper, though fortunately I don't have to ;-)

Thanks so much!

Remember though that the lasers seen in the pictures are 650mW and 50mW. The RPL is 13 times the mW output so it can be expected that the RPL will be at least 3 times as bright as the 50mW. The difference between a 200mW and a 600mW will be less. That 650mW is beautiful by the way :). If you did get a 650mW green, you can expect the beam to look like that.

Yes, the difference will be much less with 200mW.
I would guesstimate (from various green lasers I have owned) that 150mW is about 2.5 times "brighter" than 50mW, and ~650mW is about 2.5 times "brighter" than 150mW. That would make 650mW about 5 times brighter than 50mW, which seems accurate to my eyes.

The sensitivity of the human eye decreases rapidly as the "brightness" increases... the relationship is logarithmic and complex... I'm not that good with math so I can't give you any exact numbers.

Its always hard to tell how much brighter something will actually look. If you have the two lasers next to eachother you can guesstimate the power ratio (if they are the same wavelength).

When you are using just one, it greatly depends on conditions - 5 mW in a dark room is more impressive than 500 mW on a sunny afternoon outside.
