So what is the better battery AW or RediLast


What is the best battery and why?

Both are just wrappers around cells manufactured by other companies.

Ive basically got AWs and Panasonics. Cant go wrong with either. :beer:

Edit: @IE just finished a build with an MT-G2 on noctigon copper star. Running with 2 x AW IMR in series got 7.2 A and way over 3K lumens... The AW 18350's are amazing!

Yup, that they are. I have 2-3 left, but no longer have a laser to use them with.

AW IMR and Panasonic are the way to go. Panasonic preferably if they make the size you are after. 18650B and PD all the way. If you can't run off a PD maybe you need to rethink what you're doing
I do have a couple of the 18650 in the AW IMR but the panasonics are better.
Agree on the rest though as below 18650 all my better cells are AW IMR in 18350 (gotta love when they fit right grainde), 16340, and 14500. Don't have any in the 10440 yet.
I use less expensive cells for units with low draw and the good cells for the rest.

I voted AW but that really means Panosonic. I have never had an issue with any AW branded Panosonic.

they are both Panasonic 3400mah cells.

Also, for heavy loads the new Panasonic NCR18650PF cell . . .

can support up to 10 amp loads.

Lithium Nickel Manganese Cobalt Oxide chemistry.

No protection circuit gives a lower Internal Resistance, for more power output.

Really? The AW IMR 18650 and Pan B's are the same?
Panasonics are rebranded AW's or are AW's rebranded Panasonics?
I thought the PD cells were the ones rated for 10 amps.

I just did a quick search and the ratings of the PD and PF seem to be the same. Is the PF just an updated version? They both have the 10amp 2750/2900 rating.

AW's are rebranded Panasonics. Not sure about the PD vs PF difference, though personally I do have four of the PD's and they are fantastic.

Not a totally disinterested party, but redilast cells do have better protection circuits.

When they all contain the same cell, you need to start considering things like protection cutout current, voltage; quality of build; requirement for button top. I've seen some *fires just have the button top shrink-wrapped to the top of the cell, not even welded to a strip or anything.

Tell me about it Infin. I've got so many units I think there's about 8 of each of the PD and B cells between what is in the units (locked out) and what I haven't even used yet.
I don't believe I own any cells of any size that have the protection circuit.

For the most part the 18650's I own are for use with flashlights, so the majority do have a protection circuit. For use with cheap flashlights, a must IMO.

Actually the majority of the batteries I own are Sanyo 2600mAh. They don't sag quite as quickly, so for flashlights that require a higher draw they make more sense. For longer run times at low settings, the 3400mAh ones are king.

Got it. MAkes sense for flashlights. I do own some sanyo cells but not 18650.
What I am still wondering though is if the AW IMR 18650 are rebranded Pans, which version are they?

Pretty sure that the red AW's are Panasonic CGR18650CH rewrapped. Could be something else though.

Regardless the new 2900mAh PD cells are the new king (at least as far as I know) for high discharge, and at 2900mAh, the capacity is really decent.
