Okay, so the title was an exaggeration. Maybe clickbait. I can still see. But, after looking at the focus point (not the actual beam pointed at my eye) of a 405nm 150mw violet laser, without safety glasses, I experienced some pain in my right eye. Not that the safety glasses I was using would be any better, I got them for $10 on ebay (but I'm nearly positive they're for the correct wavelength). Any veterans here able to tell me if the pain is serious damage, or just me being paranoid? Any help is appreciated.
:thanks:

If you are concerned, go see your eye doctor. No one here is a dr. Many factors come into play. How long?, how close? Was the material reflective?

Only 150mW? You are just being paranoid. How close up did you look at it?

Most likely you're just being paranoid. Get some safety glasses if you wanna burn with that laser.

Well said Rich. I am so glad that I ordered a pair of goggles for my new green laser. I don't want to blind myself so fast.

It might be only that 405 is almost near invisible if i look at the dot even from far away my eyes have to focus alot to make out the dot and it looks kinda blurry.

150mw, non direct hit .. you should be fine. If you have after images longer then few minutes, visit doctor to be sure.

Really you looked directly at the beam with it on. My lord did any one tell you not to look at the business end of some thing that is on. Its like looking down the barrel of a loaded gun! People use some common sense! It really is dangerous to look at any thing that it is on including a light bulb.
