Here's a video of my LG BH08 8x Bluray running at 300mA with a Jayrob 405-G1 lens, burning through white electrical tape like it was nothing:

Here's a couple beamshots as well.

Here it is in my well lit office:

Here it is in the showroom at work with the lights turned off:

The 8x doesn't seem to care about target color -- or fingers------- It just BURNS !!!!!!

Were you able to test the output...

Jerry

Yes, it measures 3.5 on the schmidt sting pain index after three seconds exposure to skin. The diode itself is about 6 on the mohs hardness scale. The completed laser weighs 170 grams and is 140mm long. :D

Oh, wait, the OUTPUT? No, I don't have a meter, can't test that. ;)

ROFL....:crackup::crackup:... LMFAO.... funny....

(I know a guy who knows a guy that can get you a Laser Power Meter....:D)

:bumpit:

I figured I needed to sign up for a youtube account eventually, so I did, and I edited the first post so the video's embedded now.

I wish I could afford one, but I really can't. :-\

For the first video, is the laser focused to infinity or to the tape? Either way that sure is one awesome laser!

It's focused on the tape, though it was really hard for me to see where the beam waist was.. It seems this one's a lot more UV than I'm used to. Most PHR's I've used have seemed a lot more purple, and have been more visible.

(edit) ...Which is why I couldn't get the tape to burn all the way through on the first pass, I couldn't see what I was doing! If I had steadier hands and was able to see the beam "waist" better, I'd have been able to cut all the way through in <10sec. The second and third pass were just attempts to get the remaining strands that hadn't been burnt yet, which is why almost no smoke comes off. (/edit)

Nice video! :gj:
Once you experience the power of an 8X, you are spoiled!

You should be at around 400mW's at that current. But that is an LG drive? Not a Pioneer BDR-203?

Yep, I don't think I can ever go back to puny feeble 6x's again... And yes, it's from an LG BH08 drive.

Pseudolobster:
I have read on another thread that you were searching for someone capable to solder one of the LG BH08 diode thin filament "melted". Were you speaking of this laser?

No, I made two of them. One for my boss, one for myself. My boss killed his, so I was asking who would like the dead diode. I believe the only thing wrong with it is the tiny wires inside have melted, so it should be easy to fix for someone who knows what they're doing. That diode is on its way to Spyderz20x6 right now.
