660nm Red laser question

I am putting together a red 660nm laser and so far from just short testing it gets very hot very fast. My blu-ray build stays cool for a long time. Is that normal for the red or do I possibly have the mv's up to high on the driver? I have it at right around 420mn's. I already ordered a heat sink for this but I figured I should ask.

Red laser diodes produce much more heat than violet diodes.
