I just wanted to post pictures of what happens when you mix green and red, you get synthetic yellow! No dichro or knife edge here. ;) :D

Well yeah, as long as the light is mixing somewhere you'll get yellow. Without dichros you won't get a yellow beam though, you can get a yellow spot, but not a beam, just a red and green beam next to each other that terminate at the same spot and produce yellow there.

Also, knife edging will also produce separate red and green beams, just much closer together than you have now.

If you want the yellow beam and spot you need to use a dichro (or PBS if you're only using two colours) .
