Yeah, I know, I know - just what we need, ANOTHER 50mW green pointer review, right? Well, I actually felt I should give this little laser a note here on the forum as I recieved a few of them in my last shipment from SZWholesale and was pleasantly surprised...

The host is pretty standard "New-Wish" with the rubberized coating, with the output end threaded to accept those little "kaliedoscopic" end caps that have become popular lately ... What makes this one stand out (at least build-wise) is that it includes 5 different diffraction patterns, the standard XY "stars" like the models from DX, etc as well as a few new unique patterns (see photos in link, they're far better than I could take) AND cap #5 is a protective-only cap that allows this laser to be used as a standard pointer without having the whole end hanging open as with other "star" pointers. Another good point is the case, it's actually a nice padded one (not the cheesy cardboard) with places to hold extra batteries, as well as all the diffraction caps.

Now, onto the laser itself - I recieved 4 of these total in the last shipment, and the tests on my LB1 resulted in 68mW-73mW-66mW-78mW ... Not too shabby for a $22 laser with the "goodies". Beam diameter and divergence are better than most pointers, to the point where side-by-side comparisons are actually noticeable (I don't have any of the Opto pointers to compare to, I'm relatively sure Jacks' pointers are better but IMHO these are just FINE for $22 and overall far better than most Chinese pointers) ... Battery life seems good so far with the one I am keeping, I've been on and off playing with it and showing it off since Thursday with the same set of Energizers).

As to the company, SZWholesale has been a supplier of mine for awhile now and it seems they always have SOME issue when ordering, either a delay in getting something, a mis-pack, etc but they are good at working with their customers to resolve problems (typical 1-day delay in answering Emails due to time zone, etc). On the downside, they DO have a minimum order ($200US) but they ship EMS 3-4day for free and are always good at throwing in some freebies with the order (12 LED flashlight keychains this order, a couple of 30mW pointers last order, etc) so overall, if you don't mind an occasional "speed bump" they're as good as most Chinese suppliers and better than some.

Here's a couple of pics of the laser:

To summarize, in a market already flooded with cheap +- 50mW pointers, this particular model has definitely impressed me, and I have already ordered 10 more as 3 of the 4 I recieved have already sold. If you are new to lasers and want something unique and low-cost, this may be the entry-level laser for you!

i also have on of these which i ordered 3 weeks ago.. anyway same review that i can give though what i did, is i pulled the module of this laser, to my surprise, the focusing lens of it is being held by a plastic container, yet good focus. and what i did, i have a boblaser waterproof host, put it there and used 1 cr123 3.7v and from 50 to 65mw it goes up to 110mw. now it can burn matches and stings my skin.

BUT.. so the laser is overvolted. 110mw...is very good wor a 50 cheap pointer. maybe there are a lot if IR.. and the diode gets hot quickly. in my DX kaleidoscopik laser i tryed to put a 10440 lion.. the laser seems at same brightness... but i noticed the diode get hot XD the duty cicle is so low ..using lion.... in laser made for 2x1,5 volt.

i NEVER undestrood WHY some laser work PERFETRLY with about 3v and others at 3,6..4. why? the driver must be regulated? or there are DIFFERENT diode? diodes wich need 3v.. and others that need 3.6? i don't undertand. but... fortunately my driver( DX kaleidoscopic) is well regulated also for NIMH....i can use the laser normally and bright..also at 1.22 volt single aaa battery( 1.22*2=2.44v ) (checked)

Maybe is due just to the module driver they used.

with 3V, and a non-low-dropout regulator (linear), you can end having too few volts for keep the current at good rate ..... just as example, some linear regulators drops 1,2V, some 2,2V, some low-dropout also only 100 / 200 mV ..... this mean that, depending from the type of regulator, you can have 1,8V, or just 0,8V, or maybe 2,8V ..... as you see, with these different voltages, you can have different currents with the same input voltage, and so different working levels for your diode.

hmm i the laser diode is to getting hot that much since as to what i said, i put it in a host from my boblaser waterproof laser and that module fits it.. now with a new heatsink. the module is perfectly running with a CR123A 3.7v

this is where i put the module. picture of the host..

btw this is a waterproof host, and the laser has been tested 20meters deep.
beyond that.. well we dont know.. hehhehe

until now the laser is good, peaks at 150mw for the first 15secs, then goes down to 110mw constant until 60secs...

Just out of curiosity, what are you using to establish these power output numbers (type of LPM, etc)?

Uhm... 150mW peak for 22 USD O_o
There must be a ton of IR light or the crystals/diode are/is dying soon if not then it would be worth a try!

Best regards

a question.. the 5 heads could be rotate? can they change the effect like other caleidoscopic lasers???or they are fixed in that position...

hey brewcity..... :=) can you give us some photo? i love kaleidoscopic lasers...and this seems to be a lo better..instead the regular 30mw kaleidoscopic from dx or other storie that i have :) mine is good.. but has only 1 acrive head. i know ( thanks to your review in szwholesale that 2 head are active and 3 fixed. what 2 .. and what 2 ? i notece that there are some wonderfull effect...... you are the only one to own this NET TYPE of kaleidoscopic..... a lot of user could thanks you if you addict some good photo .....:) please :P

EDIT: i notced that now also o-like sells a SIMILAR laser http://www.o-like.com/b2b_cpinfo.asp?id=1038

the effects ARE NOT ALL THE SAME...but the "satellite orb" is the same :) and i love this effect.......XD ah all olike head seems to be ACTIVE..by the photo

hey brewcity... are you the D*** reviewer in szwholesale??? i read a lot of laser review from this user.. i think that you are XD

Yep, ya busted me - I'm the D*** reviewer on the site!

The 4 diffraction heads are in fact, all active. The circle and stars are cool, the "X" pattern is so-so, and the "line" pattern looks really neat against 3d stuff (like trees) - trust me this is a neat laser!
