Chances are it is already over powered, so if you can focus the beam you will probably be able to bun things. Have you tried black electrical tape, with and without a magnifying glass?

Burning requires goggles so make sure you get a pair, before you start! :beer:

When you bought a 1mW laser, what made you think you can burn with it?
Of course, it's probably over speced, but next time if you want a laser for burning, go for at least 50mW.

Oh, and fix the title, it's not 450nm, it's 405nm

Yes if it's 1mW you won't be able to burn much.

I have bought a "40mW 405nm" module off ebay and it burned things ok. Or build up a PHR diode laser from scratch (about 100mw).

Anything that is handheld and battery powered and legal in Australia won't burn by the way. That's the point.

To give you a very rough idea of burning power, here is what I have:

120mW 405nm (purple) which will burn black stuff within maybe 30-40cm
300mW 532nm (green) lab laser which will burn things meters away if you focus it
700mW 445nm (blue) that will burn things a meter away
1.7watt 445nm (blue) will burn stuff maybe 1-1/2 metres or more away
700mw 405nm (purple) will burn stuff several metres away

Iv'e had a few red 200-300mw lasers burn a several cm too.

450nm is blue not blu-ray
1 mW is a low powered as you get
hopefully some day you will discover that 'burning' stuff is for the tyros.
