40ms soft-start good for 2W ?

Considering diodes can be modulated much, much faster than that I'd say it is fine. Soft start is for the driver's benefit, not really the diode (unless you have a hell of a lot of inductance in your diode leads). Edit: I didn't check to see if the driver is fine for that diode, but the soft start is fine.

Thanks man ! The driver seems pretty decent, good soldering, proper fiberglass pcb, reverse polarity protection

I note that they specifically say the MOSFET is rated for 2A, not the driver. You would want to see some margin. IE, a 2A driver should have a MOSFET capable of some reasonable margin more than 2A.

In other words, I wouldn't drive this board at 2A (or even 1.8A).

Further, as a linear driver, with fully charged cells, it may be dissipating as much as 6W. That's quite a bit.

IMO, we're at a stage where using linears for high current multi mode blue diodes doesn't make much sense.

My diode takes max of 1.7 amps, id like to run it at 1.6 amps to increase lifespan, with a little heatsink this mosfet would run cool ?
