Hi guys:beer:

I am interested in enemy of our wallet as all of us.

i have a problem with my diy 300mW 650nm laser.

The build contains:

-lm317 constant current driver

-this diode LASER DIODE

-olike housing+lens

the diode powered by 7.4V lipo battery and rated about 450ma.
My problem is that although i focus it into smallest dot possible,it wont burn any matches or burn stuffs.it has nearly visible beam at night with street lights.

i read some posts which lots of ,even 170mW, lasers burn stuffs.
Why mine is not :san:

(i suspect that it also emits infrared beam which is not useful)

Thanks

by the way that i am using only one lens to focus beam to inf.

Are you using goggles...? Without goggles it's hard to focus a laser properly as the dot becomes too bright to look at, long before it is perfectly focused.

yes i am using it.but also i find another way to focus it.

i am using webcam which has very very very low exposure time.using low exposure time provides very dark picture with only a my red dot :)

Possible your laser is underspec, at 100mW it would be much much harder to burn with a red than it is with 200mW+.

IR is not a factor btw.

hmm that is what i afraid of.
let's say my diode is 100mW.I am running it under 420mA and it is not damaged yet and not even warmed up.do you think that if i supply 420mA to real 100mW laser diode, wont it damaged?

Thanks

The spec are pretty accurate. If you set the driver to 420mA the laser will be at least 250mW. It should be blindingly bright and a fast burner.

You said it was 450ma before. I am afraid it has damage the LD and it is nothing but a bright LED.

you may be right but at the beginnig of my circuit i increased the current step by step.I provided 100ma to 450ma and test it for every 50ma increament whether it burnt or not :)
so my point is that diode can be damaged now but it couldn't burn anything for 400ma also :(

I mailed to seller and he replied as

"you can drive it up to 300mW ,250mW stable at pulse mode

duty circle ?less 35%,pulse width:less than 30ns

thank you for contact."

honestly i didnt understant what he meant :)

Hi guys!

Forgive for bad English...

I bought these diodes.....
Results are that:
It doesn't work in a mode pulse ABSOLUTELY!

Yes, at it the beautiful point, the good aperture, in CW holds to 500ma.....
But....
In pulse dies at a current in 100ma
