i found this laser at FP
Focalprice.com offers 2000mw 450nm Blue Aluminum Laser Pointer Pen with 5 Heads (Black) ,discount 2000mw 450nm Blue Aluminum Laser Pointer Pen with 5 Heads (Black),2000mw 450nm Blue Aluminum Laser Pointer Pen with 5 Heads (Black) products, low price 2

....seems similar to this one at dealextreme.
$149.60 - 1000mW 445nm Blue Laser Pen Pointer with Caps + Batteries Set (2 x 16340) - Blue Lasers

i think the difference is just the different current setted into the driver.

i am noob about DIY lasers. do you think that EVERYONE laser is capable to be changed in the amount of current(ampere)?
si... a person should buy che cheapest DX... and set the current until reaches 2watt of output

To even be able to reach 2W, you usually need a high powered lens, jayrob g-1 or g-2, or the equivelant. There are few to none even on this site that can do 2W without a g-1 high power lens. AND EVEN AFTER THAT, most diodes will not be able to accomplish the 2W mark.

That on FP is complete BULLCRAP. I bet right now, if anyone were ever to buy that, it wouldn't hit 1W.

but 1watt should be capable on ervery 445nm laser/build... OR NOT?
i thought that 1w was an "easy" result..... also with poor optics.

Not for the chinese companies apparently. It is very easy. I built a 1.7W 445 the other night in 20 minutes. From the ground up. Why can't they? Not sure. They are cheap chinese rip offs! Focal price is definitely one of the worst.

Dead serious, somebody order one, I'll LPM it and buy it from you for $300 that's you making $110 if it's 2,000mW

That laser that you linked from FP, will NEVER be 2W. And I still seriously doubt they could make a 1W

Realista you have been here long enough to know this info. I cant believe you can even think FP would give you a close to onspec laser.

Just do a little research on the Forum and that Focalprice link...
They say that it uses 2 16340 batteries.... Those batteries have
a capacity of 880mAh... if that laser was "2000mW" the batteries
would not last too long... (seconds).
There also does not seem to be much cooling mass....

You should know by now that the Chinese Laser sellers will
tell you anything to get your $$$$...
Use a little common sense and the FREE info on this Forum...

I was just about to say, after reading again, 2x16340? Come on now.

Even though, I am using 2x16340 with my jib drive (has a very freak IC) at 1.5A current draw on fully charged AW IMR 16340's, i am getting 1,700mW peak. Haven't tested how long batteries hold up yet tho.

And also, that is probably the EXACT laser as the deal extreme one you linked, probably from the same manufacturer. They just throw whatever the hell they want on there as the output. One company says 1,000mW , one company says 2,000mW , as soon as we get to 3,000mW with 445's the exact same laser will be changed to 3,000mW on their website.

I would say they watch LPF just as much as we do. ( Just to see what the highest output they can list their lasers as)

They definitely watch this forum. One of them (name escapes me) said that there was no way 455nm laser can do over 1W. We all laughed and showed her some charts proving that we were all building lasers over 1W. A week later 1W+ lasers starting popping up. Now they are saying 2W. Like Jake said, soon there will be 3W.

The only positive side of this overspec pointer (1000 mW Dealextreme) is the presence of a "star" cap, very useful for shipments in Italy where all pointers of class III and IV are banned.

Just make sure not to use it for long, if it is acrylic it probably won't take very long to smoke it...
If they are going to lie about the specs, why not go big?

at least there are star caps <3
why is there so less high powered models that have star caps?
(only the cheap pens have them)
maybe they'll burn out the caps? :O
