Re: 1.8W Ehgemus Custom 26650 Black Host

I suppose if you wanted it set for a fixed distance, making a lens to create a perfect dot would be pretty easy... but since the size of the rectangle changes with different focal lengths, it wouldn't work unless you also had an adjustable focal lens similar to a telephoto lens on a camera, but then so many pieces of glass would be involved you would lose much more power than you would gain by making a dot.

Remember, at these powers a small rectangle is virtually the same as a dot.... the main thing a true dot would give is greater distance shots.... but as I mentioned what good is that if the power is much less and not to mention the cost of such a lens or collimator.

Still the coolest laser out there that I know of..... I'm spoiled with no place to go now awaiting the next great DTR breakthrough!

Nothing else beats the performance and beauty!

It is an awesome host. Since Ehgemus does not do any powder coating during winter I have not been able to do any like this in a while. But the with the weather getting warmer so I should be able to get some soon.:eg:

I couldn't wait. I had to get an ehg host and wanted powder coating and was upset when he said not now. So I got me a custom 26650 hist anyways and can't wait to get it

Re: 1.8W Ehgemus Alien 26650 Black Host

Here we go. I got a new personal high with an Ehgemus Alien host I built today. 2.3W @ 1.8A.:gun:

I decided not to do a new tutorial thread as this is just a recreation of this Alien style host but it is fit for a 32650 not a 26650 as the original in the OP was. This is an exceptional laser. It has a little fatter body that gives a beefier look and feels really solid with great weight. Plus is uses a 6000mAh 32650 Feilong battery.

I was shocked when I first tested it. Came out to 2318mW and it was not even from a cold start as I was playing with it trying to get the lens to the right depth in the focus adapter.:san:

So I let it cool down and then did a 5 minute run on my Orphir LPM.

Here are some sick long exposure shots.:eg:

Re: 1.8W Ehgemus Custom 26650 Black Host

^^^ That is Freaking Awesome.

The Highest i ever gotten was 2.46W at 1.8A and that laser rolled off the table when i went to grab the phone. I have a video of it somewhere but its on my old meter that only went up to 2W.:(

I think this is a New High Record for a single diode.

Sick...

Test your Frankenstein again.:eg: You might get 2.4W:eg:

^^^ Yep my previous best was 2130mW with a 32650 RPL. This was a pleasant surprise.:D

`Verry nice but 2.3 watt for how long ??? 10 min or maybe 20 min ??

I believe this is a common misconception. My opinion is that it will last longer than any other one that I have built doing 1.8A as it is producing less heat and more light with the same current. Heat being the main factor in life expectancy. The ones that are probably in the most danger are the ones pushing 1.8A and only returning 1.8W or less. I am sure someone can work out the math on how much less wattage the 2.3W has to disperse as heat than a 1.8W running @ 1.8A.

On top of that I have built many many 2W units and have not had issues with them dying prematurely or degrading. The first 2W I built(Frankenstein) had 8 hours on it the last I heard with no degradation. Have not seen Reginak around for a few months but she was giving me regular LPM reports. I believe that there is not as much danger as most think if you do it properly by selecting the max current by the efficiency of the diode. If I build a unit @ 1.8A and it does not produce at least 2W I turn it down or use a different diode.;)

I've got DTR's former 2.135. It's got.. hours on it. I've run it for 20 minutes at a time, over and over.

No decrease to date.
I feel the 32650s will go before the laser does.

Damn i really thought most would die fast that's why i keep mine under 1.5 amp anyways nice build DTR and the pics are so good :) + rep

Maybe you should keep yours under 1.5W ?

Do you know how efficient the diode is like
with 1.5 amps going into the diode what is
the voltage across it and the power out
with no lens, if you have these figure
you can figure it's efficiency :yh:

I will keep mine @ 1.4 watt it's nice and doing fine :) that lilbit of extra 100 - 200 mW doesn't make me more happy , 700 mW of red will make me happy
