That is for setting sub microAmp currents. Below 1 microAmp
or (1/1000) 1/1,000,000 of an Amp. Not really what you need
to set LD driver currents.

I thought he would have spec'ed out the mA range to be wider than it is. i should have checked that first. its only +/- 300mA. so that doesn't make it that useful to us. but its still a cool device.

That doesn't make sense to me.
1/1,000 of an amp is a milliamp, not a microamp.
1/1,000,000 is a microamp

Jerry just made a simple typo. its hard to keep all the SI units organized in our heads. :) it allows more accurate measurement of nA (10^-9), µA (10^-6) and mA (10^-3). but the mA range is only up to +300mA.
