hello,
Driver sellers and designers encourage using the least amount of heat as necessary, to solder leads to their drivers. Some even say 1 second is all that we should use when touching the soldering iron tip to the pad on the driver.
So, here are some givens:
1) pre-tinning the leads
2)...
I want to adjust the driver's on-board potentiometer with the laser diode already connected - i.e. no test load.
Do most of you simply turn the potentiometer screw a very small amount, turn the power on, measure the current, turn the power off, and continue this process over and over until the...
hello all,
The ACS4500BU and ACS5500BU drivers require a supply voltage (Vin) of 6V to 14V.
When using two lithium batteries in series, will the 6V requirement act to shut down the driver and protect the batteries when they both reach 3V?
If not, what else can be done to protect from...
I notice many here using 3.5A for this diode but on ebay, the specs for this diode shows a nominal setting of 2.3A and maximum of 3.5A.
Does anyone know what a good safe current setting for long life is without going unnecessarily low?
The difference between 2.3A and 3.5A is huge and 2.3A...
Some Chinese laser diode sellers have this "glass packaging" description for their diode; some sellers don't.
The sellers that don't have this "glass packaging" have lower prices ( $23 vs $31 ).
The following description is for an 808nm 1W laser 9mm T0-5 diode on ebay:
"Because this laser is...
hello all,
In machining an aluminum heatsink with a center bore for the copper module, how much oversize should the bore ID be in relation to the OD of the copper module?
For example, if the copper module is 35mm OD, what should the mating aluminum heatsink ID be?
If the ID of the bore is...
Some sources imply that using connectors can be risky due to coming loose, charging the caps on the driver and eventually blowing the laser diode.
Should I stay away from Deans Micro connectors or are they 'safe"?
Anybody have an opinion?
Ebay source for 808nm 9mm laser diode comes from Wuhan, China which seems like a questionable source and location?
(price: $29)
THOR Labs seems a bit expensive but maybe more reliable? I don't know where Thor gets their diodes.
(price: $86)
Available literature seems to imply the Lasorb diode protection device needs to be connected to within 1cm (1cm maximum distance) from the laser diode pins. If the Lasorb device is located/connected too far away from the laser diode, the ESD protection which the Lasorb is meant to provide...
Hello all,
I recently heard the Blackbuck 8M driver, which is out of stock at DTR and Barnett, is still in-production.....somewhere.
I assumed it was out of production due to China's chip shortage but maybe not.
I tried to contact x-wossee via ebay but no response. Maybe his geographical...
Has anyone tried to machine an aluminum heatsink with undersized bore (slightly smaller ID than the OD of the copper module for an interference fit) and cut a slot lengthwise through the aluminum heatsink to produce an open gap.
When pushing the copper module into the aluminum heatsink bore...
