Mysterious eye damage from 1W 445 laser

Hello, I want to share this here both as a question and as an alarm to anyone reading this who uses or will use lasers. When I went on to buy my first blue 1W 445 nm laser, it was off an internet post. The guy selling it proceeded to show it to me, us both unprotected, in a bright sunlight...

Since Blue light (445 nm) and around is considered dangerous, how come it is used in laser shows?

I figured out I am wondering. How is it possible for blue lasers to be used in laser shows (even when diffused, thus much less powerful), if the blue light in any strength is considered to possibly cause photochemical damage to the eye?

I came across this setup at a fair - is this appropriate mounting?

Hello, I randomly saw this happening at a fair in Bulgaria. The laser is scanning right in the eyes of the buyers from thus stand as well as kids are playing among the figures. Is this a safe situation?

Is a one-off exposure by looking at the dot of a 445 nm 1w laser for a minute a cause for concern?

I have no other good place to post this question, so please bear with me. I was recklessly shown how a 1W 445 nm laser burns paper, lights a match and melts a plastic cap. The demonstration happened outside. I did not know all that I know now about lasers at the time of the event. I looked...

How come laser shows are not a danger to the audience? (newbie)

Hello, I am a newbie to lasers in general and on this precious forum. I did use the search bar for "laser shows" and "laser show safety", but didn't seem to find that explained. How come laser shows are not a danger to the audience? I see and have been to such ones that scan over the audience...

Are the chinese blue lasers in any way a bad idea?

Hello, Sorry if this has been discussed before, I did not seem to find that information by searching. I do know that in case of green lasers, there is usually a missing IR filter on the cheaper ones, making them a lot more dangerous than a high quality one. What is the case with blue (445)...

This is CRAZY | Please, help me understand the dos and don'ts a bit better

Hello guys, my third post here, as I am researching the topic of laser safety. I stumbled upon THIS video (it's not mine and I do not know that person): And I am in AWE. How can someone be THAT irresponsible? But probably the more interesting question - are lasers THAT dangerous of someone...

Newbie here: Will looking at the laser's dot for a minute from 1 meter with no glasses cause harm?

Hello, I just bought my first blue laser. Not knowing enough about it, I fell a “victim” to the seller (got it second hand) as he was demoing it for me prior to purchase. He happily shown me how it burns a matchstick, white paper (!) and blue plastic cap. This happened outside in pure daylight...
