Custom "El Cheapo" RGB Laser With FX Controller!

That’s a relief! Glad it’s nothing serious. I was trying to figure out how it was wired. Was hard to see from the photos. Keep me updated! Have fun!

Custom "El Cheapo" RGB Laser With FX Controller!

I would probably separate the two modules at this point and see if we can diagnose them separately. I trust you have no issues changing the colour of the laser just by shorting each TTL pin on the laser board? Power the laser on its own. Shorting the red pins together for example will turn off...

Custom "El Cheapo" RGB Laser With FX Controller!

Correct. Just flow the solder nicely so each hole is connected together. Imagine the line of solder completing the circuit instead of the MOSFET. To be clear, this is for each MOSFET, keeping the 3 channels separate. Good luck with it! EDIT: I will try to get you a photo to make it clear...

Custom "El Cheapo" RGB Laser With FX Controller!

Great to hear! I can’t wait to hear your thoughts on this. Some of the FX are impossible to explain and show to people on camera. There’s one that strobes between all the colours of the rainbow super fast and looks white when it’s still. Wave that around a wall, it’s very fun! Maybe some photos...

Custom "El Cheapo" RGB Laser With FX Controller!

I can’t think what would be causing this to be honest. Could you get some photos of the boards? If I can’t help hopefully somebody else can. EDIT: Just a thought. Did you bridge where the MOSFETS should be. Just excluding them will leave the circuit open.

Custom "El Cheapo" RGB Laser With FX Controller!

As far as I know it should be exactly the same process. Just make sure the board is the same one as mine and you should be good. Obviously I can’t know if they’ve made any changes since I bought mine. If in doubt I’m sure people here can point you in the right direction.

Custom "El Cheapo" RGB Laser With FX Controller!

Thanks for the reply’s. I was beginning to think I’d offended somebody, haha. But hopefully people starting out will see how easy it can be to get stuck into RGB. This project totally satisfied my need for Sanwus RGB Handheld after I followed his production progress and final reviews. But of...

Custom "El Cheapo" RGB Laser With FX Controller!

Quick Intro: I'm sure the regulars here are familiar with my old thread regarding my experience in buying a cheap ass RGB TTL module. If not, that thread can be found here: https://laserpointerforums.com/threads/controlling-a-cheap-ttl-rgb-module.104148/ I basically just wanted the cheapest...

Controlling a cheap TTL RGB module.

Quick update for you guys. I’ve just taken delivery of the replacement diode today. Never worked with one before. Managed to get the old one out and press in the new one. Just tested it to make sure it lights and indeed it does! Yay! Anyway, after battling with all the glue and pressing the new...

Controlling a cheap TTL RGB module.

Thanks for posting that. Saves me a job. I’ve spoke to laserlands some more. They’ve agreed to send me a replacement 505 diode. So hopefully I’ll be able to get it swapped out without too much trouble or messing up the alignment. I’ll kee you posted with anymore news and will amend my review...

Controlling a cheap TTL RGB module.

Ah, I should’ve said at some point. The unit I got sent is slightly different from the photos on their website. See one of my previous posts with photos and you should be able to just see the driver board. If anybody is interested in a close up I’ll post one later. But my point being, there...

Controlling a cheap TTL RGB module.

Exactly what I thought. I’ll try and reply and keep it simple.

Controlling a cheap TTL RGB module.

Sorry for double posting. I’ve messaged laserlands, they asked for photos and then had this reply this morning: “can you increase the current to the green?the current is not enough” Any idea how I should respond to this? Surely I don’t have any control over the current to each laser. Is this...

Controlling a cheap TTL RGB module.

Thanks for the input guys. It’s 12v across the diode while it’s all connected and running as a white laser. Diving any further into diagnosing this is probably way out of my comfort zone. I’ll message laserlands and see what they say. I may end up just writing the 505 off, not bothering with...

Controlling a cheap TTL RGB module.

The green is a 505nm. I’m starting to think it’s toast, too. Just annoying that I’ve no idea what’s caused it.

Controlling a cheap TTL RGB module.

I’ve been putting together a bit of a review for this, getting some photos too. Today I was going to build it into a small project box with some switches. Unfortunatly at some point the green laser has decided to only light up very dimly. The voltage at the green jack that goes out to the laser...

Controlling a cheap TTL RGB module.

I’ve got a few options now for where to go next with it. I’ve come across HDD scanners over the past week and as I work in computer repairs, I have an endless supply of dead HDDs. So that’s one option. Or just build a line generator and do the liquid sky thing. But first I need some sort of case...

Controlling a cheap TTL RGB module.

Massive thanks to ArcticDude for his help today. Managed to mod Big Clive’s controller and got it working with this unit. Had no idea it would be so easy. I’ve been playing with it this evening and am having so much fun. For less than £40 this thing is amazing value. I’ll do my best to do a...

Controlling a cheap TTL RGB module.

Thanks for the info. Very well put. Really feel like I’m learning a lot here. I’ll have a play with the PWM the weekend and then hopefully look into building into something that resembles a portable unit.

Controlling a cheap TTL RGB module.

I’ve been reading up on ttl and am aware it’s 5v so I’ll be sure to power it correctly. Right, I’m not having much luck. The power supply that it was working with is now no longer powering it. It was working fine for about 10 mins of use. Moving it around etc changing the colours. The supply is...
