Wow, thank you CE5 that was epic. I understand what you mean when you say that i have a whole world of topics i can delve into, I'll certainly dip my toes in all the puddles as it were.
Lasers are a VERY cool and interesting subject for me, it's harder to find anything more awesome than a beam...
Wow, ok that seems fine then. I'll be sure not to point at anything that is moving or flashing (it could be an aircraft), and also not to point directly at objects in the sky but rather circle them as radim said.
Thank you for the help once again, without you experts i wouldn't have known left...
Hap, i think the beam divergence on that laser you recommended may be too high. (1.5mRad?).
I'm unsure if the beam will be good for star pointing, as after a few Km it may have expanded too much. :undecided:
Taken from the batteriesplus website - "The specs are nearly identical, though the new green 25R batteries have a lower internal resistance, and a longer life cycle"
So a lower internal resistance is good for non intensive devices?
Paul, i think the Samsung batteries I'm purchasing are NOT discharge protected (flat ended as you said). The sanwu laser pointer that needs them only requires one 18650, so i shouldn't need to use both in circuit.
Would a discharge damage the circuitry of my laser pen?
Wouldn't trust "samsong", seems like a chinese knock off, haha.
No, but seriously Bob, thank you for responding. imrbatteries i will also check out. :D
I have been looking to buy these 18650 li-ion batteries - 18650 li-ion rechargeable - for my sanwulasers green pointer, and i was wondering if batteriesplus.co.uk is a good seller?
I'm no battery expert, but ebay listings for "9000mAh 18650" rechargeable batteries are just utter b**locks.
Oh yes, i understand what you mean about the bank account thing, I've got £120/$156 (roughly) to spend and i think that'll dissappear quite quickly. ;)
Oh, ahaha I just realised I'm talking to a wicked lasers fan! I don't actually own any of their products, and I guess I jumped to conclusions about them being bad.
Paul, i thought the bestlasers website seemed a tad fishy, thanks for "pointing" (haha) me in the right direction and radim that sanwulasers website is great. :yh:
I already have a 5mw , 532nm laser pen (lovely green beam), and i'd really love not to be blinded, haha. I'll purchase a few more powerful pointers and get the relevant goggles.
The 5mw one I use doesn't require safety goggles but I wouldn't want the beam near my eyes. ouch.
I always thought holograms were a "sci-fi" only thing. huh.
Quick question: How long do you recommend I study the theory side before I can attempt building a low power rig? (100mw or so)
I know a lot of newcomers are only in it for the melty melty, but i'm prepared to put in the hours :)
Paul and radim, a million thanks for the links to helpful websites and texts i can read up on.
I think from this point on I'll have to get my head down and take notes on the subjects.
I never knew laser physics could be so interesting, I'm really looking forward to doing the mathematical...
Ah, thank you very much. They are exactly what I'm looking for text-wise. :)
What's holography? Holograms and stuff? I'd like to know more about that, yeah.
I was pleasantly surprised by the helpfulness of the members on this forum. Haha, the stickies I've been reading are useful. Thank you for your response. :thanks:
