I work with 4x4 and rally teams. Sometimes, a vehicle breaks down in middle of nowhere, and even with GPS coordinates, it can be tough finding it.
I am wondering, in the nightime, will a 20mw Green laser to be shined straight upward by the driver of the vehicle will act as a nice beacon?
I see...
I found this on aliexpress
Aliexpress.com : Buy 30W Constant Current LED Driver DC12V to DC30 38V 1000mA for 30W High Power LED from Reliable driver suppliers on LED World company
and I also found this driver from same seller

So it snowed 12 inches. And then it cleared.
And Orion appeared.
So I decided, to shoot the hunter
And then shoot someone else
And then lase the hell out of the lawn
Lase the damned moon
And create illusions in the sky
Why should the greenie be left behind... eh?
There is lot of talent in this forum. People make lasers, devices, and what not.
I am a photographer, and as many of you know I am into Timelapses.
A few budget camera panning device projects have been successful in kickstarter. Initial price is always around 160-170$ and these devices get...
We drove 4000+ kms. 2000 each in west and north Norway.
Took over 15GB of dash cam footage in high def.
Here is all that compressed into 11 minutes.

Hello fellas
As many of you know, I love making Time lapses.
If you look at youtube, you will see many time lapses showing actual panning(as opposed to software panning(fake panning effect)).
Now, you get devices like Radian and Astro which are programmable and all.
However the prices usually...
Its my first try with Aurora, so I was still struggling with seconds. I guess you actually need a 5 sec F2.8 exposure at ISO 6400 or something for time lapse, but I was doing 13-14 seconds.
With the in built intervalometer it was a 13 second shot with 14 second intervals, so 1 second gap between...
I got this laser from a Aliexpress seller. I was wary of buying, but form member ramneek (Laser Pointers - View Profile: r4mn33k) bought a few from this seller, and LPM showed 1.2W approx.
So I decided to take a plunge. The price was 120$ listed, but I messaged seller for 110$ for a special...
So I got my first high power blue laser(1W I think). Lights matches instantly, starts smouldering even white newsprint.
Reading all these posts here has resulted in a protocol I follow.
Laser is in box without batteries inside laser. I simply wear my goggles, then insert batteries, and then...
Trawling through the search threads on the forum, I am now fairly confident of assembling a laser using a DTR module, a driver and a host from dealextreme.
However, even though I have searched LPF and a lot of other forums, I am a little confused about how to make LED flashlights.
Firstly the...
While going through the forum threads, its become clear that green DPSS modules do not function well at low temperatures.
What about diodes(MT140 etc.,)
Is there some kind of chart of temperature vs output.
That said, at -20 degree C, your duty cycle should increase since the diode will have a...
For starters let me clear two things.
You cannot measure power of a laser, or brightness output of a flashlight, or similar things, by just "looking" at a beam, or seeing how fast something burns etc., etc.,
Accurate measurements require specialized equipment.
What if you don't have specialized...
A short guide Batteries
I created this after trawling the web searching for different batteries available
AA and AAA
1.2-1.5V batteries, the most commonly used. Usable in low power flashlights, lasers(upto 100mW or so) and other small sized consumer electronic devices. Sanyo Eneloop is the...
This is my first laser pointer. It says 5mW and comes in a pen host which takes 2 AAA batteries.
Since its 7$ approx, I was not too worried if its less than 5mW, however, its clearly more than 5mW.
Reasons I think so
1. Beam is visible(not very much though) in lit rooms (CFL/Tubelight).
2. Dot...
I have been poking around forum threads, and currently it seems, that the best bang for the buck is 120$ or so Blue laser pointers, as Blue diodes pushing 1W are cheap(due to some projectors using them?)
It was my original idea. However, after seeing some videos of these 1W lasers (even actual...
Hello everyone.
I am from India, and lasers intrigue me. I do not plan to buy the monster 100mw+ lasers anytime in the future soon, however, I like to watch videos and generally look around on the web.
Infact, searching google for 100mw lasers brought me here.
As for ownership, I have a <8$...
