If the cops take it any further tell them you only bought the lasers to detect the smoke coming through from next door.....
I once fell out with a neighbour over their noisy all night parties it eventually escalated into violence. Luckily one night they mysteriously disappeared never to return...
What? No beams yet.....
I added an aspherical lens and painted the reflector black on my XR-E R2 501b and turned it into a pretty impressive thrower for its size.
Considered replacing it with an XM-L T6 but I've read these cant throw as far as the R2.
I do have another 501b that I dont use...
Well not exactly..........
When I said NOW I meant RIGHT NOW as opposed to leaving it any longer.
My laser is still about a week away and my glasses are local.
Although I have no inclination to burn with it. I lived out all my arsonistic tendencies as a teenager.
I am an (ex) soldier with...
Thanks for the HU...... I searched for some and found that little ribbed silver senior you built...Thats an absolute beauty mate nice find... and now I simply must have one (or two). LoL
Man this hobby eats some dough :scowl:
Dunno what I'm gonna make them into yet....Were there any tricky...
You can build a test load for under €15. It's a useful bit of kit and good soldering practice if your new to all this like me ;)

Although read the whole thread as you'll have to uprate the diodes and...
I've read a few threads on here that claim unless the LD is of above average efficiency it can die quickly even at 1.8A which led me to believe 1.6A was maybe a better limit?
I thought these things could store power for a while and that was why they are discharged this way using the leads?
So when using a test load, you are saying that as long as you disconnect the power source before the load any capacitor on the driver will already have discharged?
Dude that was a bummer I hope your peeper fully recovers.
I have a 1.5+ 445 on the way and your shared experience here has convinced me to buy a set of safety specs NOW
Can that 200mA really make that much difference to a 445, especially with yours being so efficient?
Just wondering as I have both a 1.62 and 1.8 drivers coming and all this talk of flickering and going poof is worrying me about the 1.8
Expecting my C6 kit any day now.
Did you just have to solder the driver leads to the diode leads? Did you shorten any of them first or just tuck them inside?
What about the white case pin lead on the diode did you just have to do anything with it?
Any precautions you had to take whilst...
I'm trying to get my head around how these connections work
So does the + input to the driver connect to the host casing to make the circuit? How has that been done...Is it soldered to the pill or just bare threads from the lead in the pill threads connecting to the host casing?
Is...
Hehehe thats a sight. never seen a peeled 9V before.
Cool so Cyparagon was refering to issues with the 9V source and not any likely current problems that will be encountered with 2 avg capacity 3.6V lithium cells.
Thanks for putting me straight
I have a 800mA AC to DC converter with...
Nice price so I'm having myself another one
Can you tell me approx what kinda power these will produce with a 445nm at 1.8A and how much use can I expect from a set of cheap Ultrafire 800mAh cr123's?
Thanks
Man thats a great "Back to the Future" laser. Love the lack of pcb with the driver components right on the heatsink keeping the retro real :D
Yeah, just wish Lionel could see it now....... He'd p!ss his pants
Yeah nice, that is indeed some heatsink. I like the idea of keeping the tolerances tight and a large contact area between the tube and heatsink. I'll be sure to keep that in mind if I ever make my own.
Glad it worked.
I was considering buying some battery cases with different voltages for bench testing, you've convinced me its a good idea.
Hey JaiNobeZ. What kind of lifetime would you expect from a 2W 445 on short <30 sec duty cycles? I'm curious as I have one in the pipeline.
WoW 30 mins thats one tough little LD alright
What host was it in?
Was the diode just in an AixiZ in the heatsink?
Did you have any other heatsinking on the driver other than thermal'd to the pil?
Lots of questions sorry I'm a noob to this
Thanks
