A design for solid state precision touch control

Hi guys! One of the aspects of our custom laser builds that I always thought could be improved is the fixed output mode circuitry that we have. I have been finding out about (not-so) recent developments in flashlight hosts which have rotary magnetic mode switches. This is a ring mounted on...

    Anyone pushed a M140 beyond 2.0A?

What do you do at work that requires a 2W hand-manipulated laser??

MAGIC and IRON4D by rhd - Info and Guide

That's a great point you make, rhd! two IRON4Ds stacked is surely the answer. wannaburnstuff: FWIW the Arctic Alumina *does* come in two parts. (two tubes of stuff you gotta mix)

    X-Drive wiring questions

Well that's just the thing, I don't know if *for this driver* the LD- and V- are one and the same or not. If they were, then the case pin and diode LD- pin can be soldered together. If it was in any way easy for me to do it, I would use my DMM to test the voltage difference between the V- node...

    638nm Divergence question

Hey, so one thing that should help with aligning to galvo mirrors is the fact that the beam on these coming out of the aperture is thicker in the orthogonal direction to the orientation of the final bar. Since you want the bar aligned with the axis of rotation on your mirror, and in general...

    X-Drive wiring questions

Yup the HS has been sitting on my desk for a few months for the rest of the build to be readied. I know that the thin layer of oxidation does not affect heat transfer, but it definitely will benefit from a polishing product.

    X-Drive wiring questions

Well, I did get it working. LFL G2 lens in the mail, but it ignites white paper incredibly easily with a 3-element lens. Probably producing about 2.1W if I had to guess :D flaminpyro's excellent high density copper heatsink does a fantastic job cooling the beast of a diode.

    X-Drive wiring questions

Well, the diode doesn't appear to connect its case to its - pin (I still cannot remember which is cathode and which is anode, sorry). Edit: verified with DMM

    X-Drive wiring questions

Hi guys, I really need to get this 445 built today, but I am wondering about one of the details. I've got a pretty standard build going here where the diode case will be electrically connected to the battery minus in a 18650 (P60 style) flashlight host. I have used my DMM and it reports...

MAGIC and IRON4D by rhd - Info and Guide

Well my 1400mA Mits 500 in a waterproof copper HS Solarforce P1D build is a blinding (literally) success. This one's a real gem. I'll have review up soon as I get around to uploading the pics.

MAGIC and IRON4D by rhd - Info and Guide

I see, thanks. I hope these drivers won't be one-offs. Though it would make my lasers (hmm. laser. singular) that much more unique.

MAGIC and IRON4D by rhd - Info and Guide

Clif! I got all my drivers the last few months from your site! You have been an indispensible resource. I wanted to ask you if you will have any more of these 700mA IRON4D's in stock? I only see the 1050mA (3x 7135) version listed. Is it common practice to solder an additional 7135 on to a...

MAGIC and IRON4D by rhd - Info and Guide

Oh my goodness... So I really love the design of the IRON4D Driver, it's impossible to mess up the pins. But! The spaces are SO tiny! I just spent about 3 hours soldering the FIRST 700mA driver onto my 635 diode: It's taken a tumble to the floor already, and I've peeked at the Open Can...

    Anyone pushed a M140 beyond 2.0A?

I suppose I've been spoiled (in a sense) by spending $20 for my LD drivers for the most part. They generally are good about holding to some pre-set current no matter the Vf.

    Anyone pushed a M140 beyond 2.0A?

ryansoh3, you modded a resistor on that driver to take it from 1.2A to 1.8A? The page seems to say it has different output current depending on which LED diode which has me a bit worried... Did you use a test load to set/test its current?

    Mrcrouse’s Tri-Diode host

Well what I really dig personally is the ferocity with which smoke billows out the side of a cardboard box or whatever when I focus a 445 to a pinpoint onto it. I can only imagine this would be twice as epic with 2xM140 PBS'd (as it got a lot more powerful for me going from ~1.3W A140 to ~2W...

What kind of driver is it? boost/buck/both?

    Mrcrouse’s Tri-Diode host

Is there any way (with your current design of the 3 diodes parallel in linear configuration) to get THREE 445nm diodes to focus on one point? My guess is that the only way is through a knife-edge config where the third beam (first two can be PBS'd) must be manually focused (both angle and...

    Anyone pushed a M140 beyond 2.0A?

Good thinking Apex. And yeah looks like buck is the way to go for these 445's.
