Laser Yurt!!!
Yes. Really.
View from above the fog, a few miles away
Be sure to look at the photos of the hardware used for this project, in the photo stream.
Looking to check a few lasers on a calibrated Laser Power Meter anywhere near the North Olympic Peninsula (Port Townsend) area.
Will bring lasers to you.
Thanks!
I finally got around to dissecting the "5mW" green pen that is often sold in a 405nm/Green combo on Ebay.
First, it's a bitch to get out of the barrel. Press fit all the way. And yes, I buggered the end of the module trying to get it out of the barrel.
Here's the whole module, unscrewed. I...
I'm trying to come up with ways to ruggedize some of my lasers so that they can be used in drizzly weather. I can wet-proof things well, but I am uncertain about "window" glass. It would be great to find some thin anti-reflective glass, but I was even wondering about making sealing caps with...
Just like this one, but smaller, with details -

Mini Dorky Overkill Heatsink
1- Put wires (and TVS, if you want ESD protection) on your laser module. See my posting about inexpensive ESD protection here -...
Inexpensive ESD protection.
If you are good at soldering very small things, read on!
The first place you should look when thinking about ESD protection for your laser diodes (LDs) is in the TVS category. TVS's are designed for ESD and transient protection. The standoff voltage of a TVS is the...
I'm wondering which (if any) of the Aixiz lenses are better for use at 532nm?
Will the 405nm glass lens be too far out of band?
405nm glass lens for AixiZ 12X30mm laser module - eBay (item 380137309450 end time Sep-30-10 13:34:45 PDT)
Or is the coating on it more forgiving and it's ok for...
Take 3/16 x 0.014 brass tubing, 0.015" wall thickness, available at many hobby shops.
Use jeweler's saw or Dremel to cut a 0.3" long slot in both sides of end (length is arbitrary).
Use pliers to decrease radius of the two prongs and gap to fit between laser diode barrel and inside wall of...
I don't have enough diodes to do this but has anyone out there tried to create a LD identifier table that uses Junction V, I/V curve and maybe diode mechanics to allow folks to figure out what is shipping in modules?
My biggest problem is that I have damned few diodes that I actually know, for...
CPU heatsink, with copper spreader. Doesn't even get warm at full power.
It even had a fan I could put back on in case it gets even more not warm.
Wish I had a mini-lathe...
Ok, so many of the laser diode supplies are constant current, but why not a standard constant-voltage one?
Do LD's drastically change their junction voltage as they age?
If they do, then which way does it go (higher, lower)?
What tends to happen when they are failing? Open? Short?
Thanks!

Took out an older 80mw greenie last night and noticed the beam has a lot of diffraction splatter around it. This picture is of the spot and surrounding yuck.
The laser is about 5 ft from the ceiling.
Is this just dirty optics? I'm hoping that's all it is. Although it's going to be a bitch to...
First, sorry that this isn't a review, but a question for anyone who has purchased the recent Wicked optics kit.
Everything about the lenses seems pretty straightforward - but are the flat mirrors front surface? Just have to know.
Thanks!
